I like jason statham and jet li so I thought I would watch this film and to be honest this average film is really what to expect. The premise sees an fbi agent on the hunt for an assassin who killed his partner. Jet li plays rogue the assassin and he is easily the most interesting character in this film. He is great in the action scenes bringing a believability to the character. He also develops as the character progresses and his relationship with statham works. Jason statham plays the typical cop in this film but it works for this film because of his performance and the added depth to his character. Unfortunately, none of the other characters in this film have any depth to them and are just filling screen time. The story has a decent revenge plot that is simple but it does work. It also has a great twist towards the end of the film. However, there is cliché mafia things that take up a considerable amount of time and just comes across as boring. The script has no depth to it, the drama for the most part is weak and there isn't any well done humour in the film. The style has some good well done action scenes but the pacing of this film is pretty bad and makes this film drag. Overall this is an average film that is only worth a watch if your a fan of either of the main actors.

FBI Agent "Jack Crawford" (Jason Statham) is obsessed with finding the assassin named "Rogue" (Jet Li) who killed his partner "Tom Lone" (Terry Chen) along with Lone's wife and child. His obsession is so severe that it eventually results in the breakup of his own marriage. However, as fate would have it the assassin just happens to reappear in San Francisco several years afterward at the same time that a war breaks out between the Japanese Yakuza and one of the Chinese Triads. In no time Jack Crawford has his hands full as the body toll rises and Rogue begins appearing—and then disappearing—like a ghost. At any rate, rather than reveal any more I will just say that I thought that this was an outstanding movie—at least for the most part. Unfortunately, the director (Phillip G. Atwell) apparently got carried away and it really tended to unravel towards the end. As a result, instead of ranking this movie quite high, I have to downgrade this film to just slightly above average.

Before The Expendables, Jason Statham and Jet Li appeared in The War. Statham plays a dedicated cop whose Chinese heritage partner has been killed and he has been highly strung since then.Statham is looking for The Rogue (Li) the assassin hired by gangsters to kill his partner. Meanwhile Rogue is back in LA working for rival gangs and playing one off against the other. The film has actually more than a run of the mill action setting. The presence of Li adds bite to the film as well as some good martial arts sequences. Statham is the determined cop after Li but there seems to be more to them than a shared enmity. The film tries to develop layers to its plotting to add some depth and motive, it even adds a kick to the gut to add some unpredictability to the formula.

It's Jet Li Vs. Jason Statham, and that alone should be a selling point when it comes to this movie. Although Jet Li was a more popular martial arts action star back then. Not only that it also has the Triads Vs. Yazuka which in itself is another selling point. So these two elements would equal a major head to head and clash action. And should make this movie a entertaining popcorn fest. And for the most part it delivers the goods. It's stylish and cool while having enough substance to back it up. The plot isn't entirely original. It's similar to previous movies that has two gangs going at it with each other and a protagonist caught in the middle. Except this time it's two badass guys. So yeah, two badass actors going at it with each other, mixed in with two notorious gangs. To sum it up, this is a cool and entertaining movie with few twists. Despite that one salad scene with Devon Aoki, which is super lame. She is practically a irrelevant character. This isn't the most intelligent movie plot wise but very watchable. And I thoroughly enjoyed it and found it thrilling. Especially when it first came out. And I was a big fan of Jet Li back then.7.4/10
