Americans and Brits are as bad as the Mad Muslims they fight in the ME. Hollyweird types love moral equivalence, and this movie is full of it.It's pretty good for 3/4 of the way, but then it devolves into all sides are the same. In the real world, Mad Muslims purposely maximize the deaths of innocents. The moral idealism this movie delivers is as convoluted and paint by numbers as the last 1/4 of the movie. The formula for a movie like this is get a few well known stars, go through the motions, deliver a liberal message, make some money. The problem is, it's not very entertaining.
... View MoreThe title is not misleading, but it is not telling anything about the story either. For what it is, it works well, pure action, nice settings, based on true events I don't know (not confirmed, since it is classified), but still a good action movie.Killer elite might be putting it over the top, it is a film about assassins or killers for hire and how they help each other or try to if something goes wrong, even though they properly shouldn't. The always hard hitting Jason Statham is the main person in this and he gets accompanied by other big names such as Robert De Niro, Clive Owen and Dominic Purcell. They actually form a good team and are all bad-asses, but off course Jason is the most bad-ass and the most kind hearted also, so he can't just stay away when his mentor is captured, he has to help out and that means getting back in business. As always with Jason Statham, there is action and fighting for every penny's worth, it is entertaining and a lot is going on, but I would classify it as action entertainment like all the rest, there is nothing really special about it.

View MoreKiller Elite (2011): Dir: Gary McKendry / Cast: Jason Statham, Robert De Niro, Clive Owen, Dominic Purcell, Aden Young: Exhilarating action film about professional assassins poised against each other. Jason Statham plays a professional assassin and Robert De Niro plays his mentor and after an opening scene where Statham makes a kill but unable to kill the victim's son. He ends this line of work and goes back to Australia to live with his girlfriend. Statham is summoned to another job after his mentor is taken prisoner. To bargain for his life Statham is assigned by an ill sheik to kill the four men responsible for the death of his three sons. His remaining son will execute Statham's mentor if he fails. Directional debut for Gary McKendry with much well crafted yet totally implausible action scenes that still rank this as one of Statham's best films. Statham pulls off one of his best roles as he attempts to rendering these kills to appear as an accident. De Niro does well as the mentor whose success with Statham leads to a rescue mission. De Niro will eventually be assigned to watch his girlfriend when Statham is assigned one last job. Clive Owen leads a team sent to prevent the four kills from happening. He is skilled at his job and becomes a great counter to Statham including their satisfying send off. Dominic Purcell and Aden Young steal scenes as members of Statham's team who take risks that turn out costly when a hotel clerk betrays his placement. While the action is silly and over the top, it is entertaining and intelligent right up to the final departure. Score: 9 / 10
... View MoreKiller Elite gets an 8/10 because while it is high entertainment for a macho thriller, the plot twists can be puzzling at times. When you get Jason Statham and Clive Owen on the same screen, and throw in an aging badass like Robert DeNiro, you just know that it's going to be one heck of a ride. This film is such a heck of a ride, it almost makes you want to get off at the end, turn right around to get back in line and do it again. In fact, that's exactly what I did because the first time through there was stuff I missed or didn't pay enough attention to.It's fast paced, reasonably well acted and reasonably well written. Killer Elite is a known quantity. This ain't no chick flick.
