Alice MacLeod (Carly McKillip) is a snarky self-obsessed teenage in Smithers, British Columbia. Her father (Dan Payne) is an absent-minded hippie. Her mommy-knows-best (Rebecca Northan) is also a hippie. Her younger brother Mac is the smartest of them all. This is a sweet nice quirky sitcom. I guess some people complain that it doesn't match the books. Having never seen the books, I can't talk to that part. All I know is that I like this loving family. I'm sorry it lasted only 13 episodes. I like that Alice is often wrong. There are a lot of crazy side characters and a few hilarious moments. It all adds up to an enjoyable traditional family sitcom. Best of all, the love is never wrong and they always find a way.
... View MoreNot typically the type of show that we watch but I've been sucked in by Alice I Think. It's witty, simple and not over-the-top. Oddly enough, while based on books aimed at teens, the humour definitely has an adult theme at points (like The Simpsons). The collection of actors is very captivating. From the Gemini-nominated Rebecca Northan (read a nice Q&A article with Rebecca in U magazine published by her alma mater U. of Calgary - search for it on their site) to the relative newcomer with the large resume Connor Price (see him with Russell Crowe in Cinderella Man) to the hard-working and multi-talented Dan Payne (Stargate, multiple Muppets projects, multiple other movies), Carly McKillip has a great 'supporting' cast (she's no slouch either). Of course, Carly is the title character but her family takes on an equally important role in portraying this quirky BC family.I think this show will need about another 5-6 episodes under its belt before we fully understand each character a bit better. We've seen glimpses of John's persona when he dreamt of a Tetris-filled life and saw his 'paranoia' with fame after his rookie photo shoot. I still think that Diane and Mac need some more time until we see who they really are. The other true supporting cast member (Marcus, Finn,...) are slowly rounding out as well.Overall, very enjoyable. Hopefully will be around for a while.
... View MoreI've just started watching Alice I think with my family and we always get a good laugh out of the show! The writing is clever and witty and the characters do a great job performing this kind of satirical humor. I especially like Alice & the dad John and their quirky, awkward relationship. One of the episodes that sticks out in my mind is when John (Dan Payne) is asked to model for the local sport store...it is hilarious! It completely goes to his head and as he struts his stuff around the small town of Smithers thinking every woman MUST be in love with him, his family just shakes their heads! This is an original kind of TV comedy and we never miss it - we are looking forward to several more seasons of our new favorite comedy!
... View MoreI found this programme to be absolutely hilarious! I was in hysterics from the word go! The cast seem to gel well together and Dan Payne was great as the dad, he certainly had some great lines that left me laughing! I have not read the books, but I may look into getting hold of them now. The show is told, in parts, from teenager Alice's point of view. However there is focus on both the parents and her brother too, giving those actors the chance to shine. I particularly enjoyed the fact that it wasn't just about Alice. The show has much potential and I would love to see it continue to grow. I would highly recommend this show to both adults and teens as it provides comedy for both levels.
