The movie had potential but was poorly executed. Started out interestingly enough. But quickly became boring and I lost interest. More attention should have been paid to the actual experiment. I was completely lost when Patrick was explaining how they were going to get rid of the ghost. Like, what? Don't get me wrong it had some thrilling moments but I would hardly classify this as a "Horror" If I could take back the last 2 hours of my life I would. The only redeeming quality is the cast... But barely. Dont waste your time. If you want horror might I suggest: The House of The Devil, The Thing, The Omen and basically any other horror movie that isn't this.

I thought Ashley Green gave a OK performance... the rest was inexpressive and soulless. There were too many holes in the story. At the start I thought it might fun indie science fiction film but ended up being another try hard paranormal activity gone wrong.. boo! Don't bother unless you want to see some really well done hair extensions.

Lots of spoilers here! Do not read past the first paragraph if you have not seen it already. This is a great horror movie -- straightforward plot, eerie setting, realistic acting, creeping dread, originality, and some genuine scares. The setting itself has been described, by those who bothered, as a new housing development, which, while technically accurate, misses the main point that it is deserted because of the real estate bust, thus would likely remain empty for some years. The long drives past similar developments with power lines not yet fired up, made this for me a freaky setting.Dialog others report as tame and obvious, "Your house isn't haunted; you are", I found jarring. Real people are often in denial and I'd be denying the bejeebies out of THIS! The quickly escalating series of e-mail messages from Patrick was effective. And, while the thing in the laundry room was clearly inspired by the Korean Grudge series, it nonetheless got me to stop breathing for a time.A few negatives -- how does Patrick know so much? The science babble was too much. Clearly they did something that unleashed this thing, but they just as clearly had little understanding of what it was they had done. And the death of a pet almost always does me wrong. Just made me feel bad, not scared. At the end, a frightened, near catatonic Kelly meets her end -- unpleasantly.... and where will she go by the way? -- in a sporting goods store! I found this movie scary, appropriately (read: well) acted, with awesome settings that exist still in various parts of the country. I've happily watched it multiple times and will again. Great flick.

The Apparition - despite being entirely Sebastian Stan (with guest appearance by Draco Malfoy), not a great film. Mostly because the director was far more interested in filming his leads homemaking, washing their hands, putting out trash, driving (so much driving... birds eye follow shots clearly ate the budget) and looking confused. A real sense of waste, since the plot was actually pretty good and could have been done really well. Still, a masterclass in what not to do whilst making a paranormal horror movie. Plus Sebastian Stan in almost every shot, looking beautiful. For that reason alone, it goes on my wish list.
