1992 this movie was a delight to watch. As a kid it was heatwarming fun. Now in 2018 as an adult, it is still a delight, but now funnier, goofier, and spits in the eye of the hipster Liberal culture.A coach needs a promotion and coaches the bosses girl soccer team. He turns to his soon to be step son to help him out and literally cross dresses his step son so they can win and the coach can get his promotion. It has comedy, pushes the envelop in a PG manner and has a nice love story, mixed in, along with teen fantasies. It's heartwarming also and it pulls off a lot of different themes very well. This is the comedy 2018 needs, that 1992 provided. As I stated FUNTASTIC Entertainment Before Societal Justice and Fake Outrage! 9.5 out of 10. Just a fun gay ole time.
... View MoreNostalgia gripping me hardcore right now, as I sit at my boring job, reminiscing about the first time I saw this movie.I was 7- and this was when Jonathan Brandis (RIP) was all over Teen Beat and Tiger Beat magazines. 90s hearthrob at his finest. I remember pressing rewind, over and over, at the daydream scene with him kissing Vinessa Shaw- wishing that were me!Back to 2018...can you imagine them making a movie like this, in today's society, without it causing a riot? For many, many reasons....Anywho...perhaps it's best it stay golden, in the 90s. Another movie where characters didn't have to be over-the-top, obnoxiously offensive and it was still funny AF. Like the bar scene, were Rodney Dangerfield gets thrown out? Dying laughing just thinking about it. Or the hilarious clap-back jokes R.D. would say, especially against the other soccer coaches. "Coach Bull, huh! I know your FULL name!" or "Good thing she isn't two faced. If she were, she'd wear the other one!". This movie is a must see.
... View MoreMan, this movie is even cheesier than I recall. It's somehow totally obvious and yet totally preposterous at the same time. But there are a few reasons to watch if you ever happen to catch it on light-night cable. First, Rodney Dangerfield is always worth a look. Every line of dialogue he has is invariably a one-liner. In LADYBUGS, most of those one-liners are embarrassingly forced, but every once in a while he comes up with a good one, well-timed. Secondly, Jonathan Brandis- who has since died a tragically Hollywood, drug-related death- is actually pretty good. He was one of those rare child actors who could actually hold his own. He's natural and not nearly as annoying as you would think. Finally, the beautiful Vinessa Shaw is always captivating, even in her early teens.
... View MoreA movie with Jonathan Brandis, Jackee, Rodney Dangerfield and the stupid mother from Mr. Belvadere? What were the studio executives thinking? It seems like one big prank on the audience, but sadly it's not. And what is with the editing? And this whole Penny Pester business is a bit perplexing. She is a chunky little thing, but when they show close ups of her legs they are skinny and muscular. I don't think so. They paid people to edit this movie and obviously they weren't really paying attention, just like all people should do if they see this movie on TV. Don't even get me started on The NeverEnding story Part II.........
