Long retired, a former CIA assassin begins to suspect that his overly cheerful and pleasant neighbours are sleeper agents intent on killing him in this energetic comedy from 'Legally Blonde' director Robert Luketic. This imaginative premise leads to several great action scenes as well as a wacky satirical take on white picket fence suburbia with the protagonist finding himself in a community that really is too friendly to be true. Ashton Kutcher 'won' a Razzie for his lead performance and he has never been much of a compelling actor, however, the biggest issue here is that around half the film elapses before the plot truly ignites. Katherine Heigl has some good moments as the innocent naïve girl who Kutcher ends up leaving his assassin career for and marrying, however, too much time is spent on their budding romance and subsequent marital tension before the sleeper agent angle takes off. Never to mind, once the film gets into the swing of things, it rarely lets up and the final hour is enormously entertaining with a supporting cast including 'Big Bang Theory' actor Kevin Sussman showing just how uncanny they can be. Tom Selleck also provides a strong turn as Heigl's stern no-nonsense father and he has a significantly larger role than one might expect. Is debatable whether the film's final twist involving him stands up to close scrutiny, but he offers a memorable performance either way, having to also balance the comedy of Catherine O'Hara, cast as his wife. In short, this is a far better film than one may expect even if the potential for more is striking.
... View MoreIts pretty amazing that bad movies like this...DO make money. I have never seen Ashton Kutcher in a movie (only on terrible T.V. Sitcoms) Here-- he is more wooden than a Redwood tree...Really quite shocking. These date (or chick) movies are turned out with amazing regularity ...some people call them rom-coms.. I call them rubbish when I am in a good mood. It always looks like ..no-one is taking it seriously --so there is no acting ..here. Just B & C grade actors not caring. Perhaps they know this kind of stuff does not require any acting. Funny ?? If you are looking for a funny movie do not watch this --The story is appalling And the whole shebang is so limp. Cant believe people watch this kind of crap......
... View Morethe film is just good fun. Anyone who complains just has the mentality of all the other stupid brain washed people who think its so easy to make a movie. Killers was a simple idea about a hit man who is trying to make it in life as a normal suburban guy. The film isn't meant to be taken seriously its just one of those films that makes you smile and have a good time watching it. The comedy wasn't laugh my f-ing ass off funny but it had the awkward real life humor that you find your friends saying and it just comes out wrong. In the end the film portrays the rich as backstabbing and greedy assholes. Im not sure I'm the only one who noticed. The movies great, Ashton kutcher was surprisingly great in this, and I loved it to the fullest. Watch it as it is, a great fun action flick.
... View MoreI went to see this film with one of my mates when it was released. OK, I admit, it was an impulse watch (because we were stuck in town for another 3 hours) and one which will haunt me for the rest of my life. This film was an absolute disgrace. Words cannot express the horror with which I watched this movie. (well, I say watched, when what I actually mean is 'threw up in my popcorn'). When we regarded the title 'Killers', my friend and I felt that this was something that we could sit through. We were wrong. In fact, we didn't even watch the end, we were so upset that this kind of cheap, awful cinema was even produced.Having finished my rant and anecdote, I will now commence to slate the film for all it deserves. For me, this film got 1, because the opening looked fairly promising, it was snappy, and puts you, as the viewer, in an expectant position. What follows is full to the brim with terrible acting, clumsy dialogue, and gaping plot-holes. There are two main beauties of cinema. One is that, although obviously not real stories (mostly), the director (if he has any skill at all) makes the characters and setting believable/plausible. This film was useful to the film industry as an example of a complete and utter failure of this aspect of cinema. Secondly, with so many stylistic influences, it is possible for directors to merge, successfully, different genres. This film's tone flailed wildly, and did not have any sense of direction at all. The story itself did not make any sense, and was fiendishly difficult to follow. Luketic should be ashamed, and Kutcher and Heigl should never, ever act again.
