I remember watching a little bit of the Inspector Gadget cartoons and liking them. But I'm afraid to say the movie is kind of a disappointment.I could tell the film makers tried to make it funny and likable but they overdid it and it ended up cheesy and sappy, sure I got some laughs out of it but it wasn't hooking. The story is about a goofy cop getting a complete make over and becoming a cyborg cop with a bunch of gizmo's and gadgets. Mathew Broderick deserves better he is a great actor and this film was bad for him. I remember seeing this as a kid in the theaters but now that I'm an adult it wasn't so appalling to me, little kids with love it, but adults might think otherwise. 6/10 for Inspector Gadget

I grew up watching Inspector Gadget. It was, and still is, one of my favorite cartoons. So you can imagine my excitement when I heard they were making a live action version. Even better it was being done by Disney. So I had some pretty high hopes. But the film has ruined the reputation of the wonderful cartoon. The casting in my opinion was horrible. Mathew Broderick was a horrible choice to play the inspector. Even worse is when they tried to give him a love story. He was suppose to be a bumbling comedic idiot and they took all it away from him. But if anything, the one thing that was terrible about the movie was that it was a feature movie. Inspector Gadget was a silly Saturday morning cartoon. The movie was too serious, too overdone, had too much of a plot and wasn't even remotely as funny.Tip for those who haven't seen it: NEVER see it. EVER. Watch the cartoon, it's a true classic.

Inspector Gadget is a movie for those 13 and older and who like the slapstick comedy movies. No one said that it had to be like the cartoon and it really isn't. It is difficult to take a cartoon and make it into a movie. Everybody has different expectations as to the storyline and the character development. It is a story in its own right. It is a good movie for the family to watch together and get a good laugh. Matthew Broderick always reminds me of Ferris Bueller. So, his comedy is similar. It is an entertaining movie and goes well with either popcorn or pizza and a soda. So enjoy the movie for its entertaining value to put a smile on your face and have you forget about your troubles during the flick. Can't really ask for more of a comedy.

I was obsessed with this movie as a kid, and even when I think about it now, I can see how it was silly and cliché, but it's still a joy to watch. I also knew this movie was based on a cartoon, but I knew nothing about the cartoon, and I knew about the movie first, so naturally I would assume that everything that happened in the movie is just like the cartoon, but I've read from other reviewers that this movie is so different from the cartoon. Since I never watched the cartoon, I'm reviewing this as a stand-alone film. This movie is really fun to watch; Matthew Broderick was the right man to play the title role, and he actually looks the part, I don't know why most people beg to differ, and Rupert Everett is funny as Sanford Scolex (aka Dr. Claw), and is sinister enough to get you invested, but the problem with his character is that he doesn't actually pose as a menacing threat to the society or to Gadget himself, he's more of a smooth talker. His henchmen are funny enough and they are great comic relief, but perhaps my greatest memory of this movie was the song, "I'll Be Your Everything" by Youngstown. That song is funky, it's a nice boy band tune, and it's good to listen to, but just recently, I found out that it's actually lyrically suggestive. For example the line, "So just call out 'Go-Go Gadget'", is actually, "I can freak you with my gadget", hahaha, lol, yeah I know, dirty, huh? The Robo-Gadget devil is funny, and he could've been the villain throughout, but all he does is wreak havoc around the city. The humor is good enough, and this movie is good, but I don't understand what pushed Disney to make a direct-to-DVD sequel, which was a complete travesty, and not worthy of being watched! I've only seen previews of the sequel, but that was enough for me to know that it's TERRIBLE!!! Overall, I like Inspector Gadget, and it's good for what it is, and enjoyable enough, especially if you liked it as a kid, if I were you, I wouldn't be so harsh towards the movie and just accept it as a stand- alone film. 8/10. Good job Disney!
