When a young ski team training for the Olympics arrives at the remote and isolated Lost Mountain Ski Resort to focus on training, they're thrilled to find a retired Olympic skier is there to help them train. I actually like killer animal movies. I love night of the Lepus with its giant bunny rabbits and Bats with its genetically altered bats eating people. This movie however is flat out awful. First of all, the acting is utterly atrocious. The lines are delivered in a stilted manner as if the actors are embarrassed to be in the movie. Their emotions are as flat as an elementary school play. I have seen a few movies with acting this bad but never one worse than this. Second, the dialog is terrible. Even if the actors weren't so awful, the script is totally nonredeemable. Third, the spiders weren't big enough to be terrifying or plentiful enough to be overwhelming. There were many instances when one of the characters could easily have crushed one, but instead they chose to panic and run about mindlessly. There were exactly six spiders about the size of a big dog and one was killed early on when it was struck by a snowmobile. They didn't even look horrifying. The CGI made them look rather like a child's toy spiders. It was very hard sitting through this movie. I think it might fairly be called one of the worst of all time.

Who's coming back? Giant CGI spiders! Who yells this warning at the beautiful young scientist in a pink hoodie? - why, some poor victim all wrapped in a spiderweb, hanging there - a tidbit for a spider, for later. Yes, she stumbles across this poor guy in the wrecked laboratory, she frees his face from the web, and asks "what's going on here????" Well, duh. Just for this one classic scene, which every giant spider movie is legally required to have, I am giving it three stars instead of two. A typical cheapie Syfy endeavor, something to watch for a few minutes while channel surfing, or while you're waiting for a better TV program to start. Enjoy!

My cousin recommended this movie to me and after watching it I will say that this is the last time I ever take film advice from a six year old! (true story) The blurb on the front of the DVD box reads: "Eight Legged Freaks meets Hot Dog: The Movie". That actually makes the movie look less appealing! In all seriousness this is a typical (probably quintessential) Sci-Fi Channel movie, bland and inoffensive with giant a creature (or in this case creatures), a scientist, a strike force, and a laboratory that's gone to hell.As I watched Ice Spiders, I couldn't help but wonder if the owners of a ski resort would be held liable in a civil court for deaths resulting from a giant spider invasion! Would their insurance even cover that?Star Patrick Muldoon is pretty amusing as the aging ski dude in desperate need of a comb. Also it's neat to see Stephen J. Cannell in a supporting role.Director Tibor Takacs made one of my favorite films as a kid, The Gate. It's kind of disappointing to see him working as a hired gun on mediocre TV movies.

Sci-Fi really outdid themselves with Ice Spiders. First of all, there is a rational amount of ice, and then there are in fact spiders to boot. There's some nice cheesy gore scenes and one really hilarious scene where some idiot stumbles into the spider's horrible forest lair and finds a body in a cocoon. The best thing about this movie is the short bus filled with the rejects from the local high school's special education program. Oh, and while attempting to flee the horrible spiders, they flip and roll the bus into a ditch because one of the mouth breathers decides to floor it on a road that is covered with, you guessed it, ice. And also spiders, surprisingly enough.
