"Decoding Annie Parker" is a low-budget movie based on the stories of two remarkable women: Annie Parker, a woman that fought her three cancers with courage; and the geneticist Mary Claire King, who believed breast cancer would have a hereditary basis and researched cancer for decades with her team. The intentions are great; Samantha Morton has top-notch performance, but the screenplay is tiresome and vague. My vote is six.Title (Brazil): "Unidas pela Vida" ("United by Life")
... View MoreLove, science, sex, infidelity, disease and comedy, the wild, mostly true story of the irrepressible Annie Parker and the almost discovery of a cure for cancer. Decoding Annie Parker is a great example of how you can make a film about such a terrible disease and yet make it so powerful and moving at the same time because when drama hits it hits you hard but my only 2 complains about the film were that the comedy was a bit too much at times but then again they didn't want the movie to be dark, unfunny and moody so i guess that kinda makes sense and 2nd after a while we never see her son again for some reason and that was odd. Now as far as performances go i think everyone were good Aaron Paul, Helent Hunt, Maggie Grace and more but the stand out performance and the one who stole the show was Samantha Morton she was amazing and i'm gonna give this film a 9/10.
... View MoreI have not stopped thinking about this remarkable film since my husband and I were fortunate enough to see it at a charity event. I am looking forward to seeing it again with several friends when it is released later this year. Every one has in some way been touched by cancer and the film maker manages to portray the most truthful, gut wrenching and often hilarious depiction I have ever seen of a woman and her family and the challenges they face after being diagnosed with cancer. The movie also tells the story of the scientist who discovered the genetic link for breast cancer. Both women are faced with improbable odds and both women overcome them refusing to give up. I cried and laughed and left with a sense of faith in myself to over come any challenge which may present itself. Why aren't there more movies like this? The cast is amazing. Miss Morton who plays Annie Parker deserves an Oscar for her incredible performance. Aaron Paul as her husband is fantastic and Helen Hunt is flawless as the scientist. Rasida Jones is perfect in her role and it's great to see Bradley Whitford and Richard Schiff working together again. Congratulations to every one involved.
... View MoreI had the marvelous opportunity of viewing this film during a premiere in Ambler, PA, outside of Philadelphia. It follows both heroines, Annie Parker and Dr. Marie-Claire King. Both know in their soul that there is a link among family members who have had breast cancer. Both have an indomitable spirit. The director films this not as a documentary but in a style that has you relating to both women and their supporters. It is poignant, funny, heartbreaking, gut-wrenching and lovely. I laughed, I cried, I empathized. If I could give more than 10 stars I would! Annie Parker in the film is so much like the the woman is in reality. I was also impressed with the portrayal of Dr. King whom I have also met. I highly recommend everyone seeing this so as to understand that family history is just one part of why we get cancer. But is so very important. Start a family tree. If you see a pattern, get to a Genetic Counselor to find out if there's a need for testing. Dr. King has only scratched the surface of this link between genetics and cancer. Get educated and most of all, pay it forward. You never know when you will touch someone and save a life!
