I enjoyed this show a lot.. But the way episode 13 ended though it seems like they were planning to make another season.. They did'nt really tell us exactly what happened and left us guessing.I am guessing that some of the actors weren't keen to do another season. Its a shame really.I think the only actor I have seen in another show worth mentioning and might have been better off leaving the show was was Mark Margolis (Sal) who starred in breaking bad..Would love it if they got some of the cast together and started up on this series again.. Even though that's unlikely.
... View MoreThis opinion is based on having seen about 3-4 episodes, and I can only hope that my impression of this show improves with the following episodes. The show itself is OK. The story (and back story) is somewhat engaging and the milieu is kind of interesting. What I don't like about the format so far, is the device of using Joey Ice Cream as a story telling device. He suddenly pops into scenes without real explanation (I assume that he's lying) and I can only hope that his function will pay off later in the show. Right now, it just seems contrived and a conscious effort on behalf of the creators of the show trying to distinguish it from the plethora of shows portraying criminals. The biggest problem for me is the casting. Jonathan Tucker playing Tommy Donnelly is totally miscast. He has a kind of dopey look to him and I don't buy it for a second when he's trying to "act" tough. He's constantly overacting, pulling his best faces trying to look mean. He couldn't be more wrong for The Black Donnelly's. Had he been a minor player I could have lived with it, but since the story revolves around him, I'm getting very close to turning the show off for good, since I can't stand his never ending overacting. The same thing goes for Tom Guiry playing Jimmy Donnelly, who in all fairness seems like a poor mans' Scott Caan. These two guys trying to act like hardasses has drama class written all over it.However, Olivia Wilde was a pleasant surprise. She gives a very good performance as Jenny Reilly. And I can only curse the writers for not using Chris Bauer and Frank Margolis, both terrific actors, more in the story.EDIT: OK, so I gave a couple more episodes, but now I've had enough. The two guys playing the main brothers have completely ruined the show for me, and I have no intention of continuing to watch this show. Too bad. The premise for a decent show was there, but they completely screwed up in the casting process. In the future, I will stay clear of anything starring Jonathan Tucker or Tom Guiry.
... View MoreI was habituated to the time slot and, although disappointed when they put Studio 60 on hiatus, I kind of understood why. Studio 60 was great when it was good but had (has) a lot of spotty points that just don't work. So I tuned into The Black Donnellys out of habit more than a genuine interest in the show.By the first twenty minutes, I knew I was into something good.NBC pulled the plug, unceremoniously and without grace, on the show after only a few episodes. Fortunately, they made the episodes in the can for the rest of its short season available online and I was able to finish out the season and it only makes me more certain of this fact: NBC is the stupidest network on the air today.Donnellys was set up to fail to begin with. It was a mid-season replacement for a faltering show that was overly-infatuated with its own self and only gave the new show five or six weeks before they killed it.The Donnellys is ... was ... could have been ... NBC's Sopranos but it doesn't look like they had a clue about what they had. Frankly, it was better than the Sopranos, I think, and I hope they either revive it or, HDNET picks it up for more episodes, or, best yet, HBO buys the series and really lets it cut loose. HBO--now that's a network that knows how to produce, and support, a series. NBC ... if you're listening ... put the Donnellys on the air in a good timeslot and give it the support it deserves. It was the best, most mature, best-produced and most well-written show you had.On a side note: Haggis is one massively talented writer and storyteller. I'll watch/read/listen to anything he's got to offer from now on. Crash, Million Dollar Baby, Letters from Iwo Jima, The Black Donnellys ... geez. Awesome run of late.Enough, even, to actually forgive the Texas Walker Ranger years!
... View Moreif your reading these comments most likely you have already seen the show and have decided to find out why it wasn't on this week and isn't scheduled for next week... but if that isn't the case i'll let you know... this show has everything you want.... drama, action, and even some romance...its one of the best shows on television!... every week it leaves you wanting more! one of the only shows both me and my fiancé can watch together and its a break from all the reality TV and 1/2 hr comedy sitcoms.... seems like it should be more of a show for a cable channel than for basic TV... the story line is great the way it is.. but with cable it would probably give more room for more in-depth details to the killing, drugs and sex going on... its like a new sopranos... only better!!!!! unfortunately if you haven't caught it yet nbc has pulled the show.... the only way to see it now is on the nbc website or to download the shows from itunes.... take a chance and check it out... you wont be disappointed!!!!! we gotta save this show!!!check out the message boards and find out how you can help!!!!!!
