"Haunted" was cancelled before even one whole season was aired; in most cases that is a hasty decision by TV executives, but in this case you can sort of see their reasoning. First of all, it's hard to stay engaged in a TV series when there is really only one lead, and he spends about 80% of the time moping. The show is also visually dreary - it looks as though it was shot through smudged sunglasses (even the daylight scenes are dark). There are too many standalone episodes, and the only two significant arcs - Simon the persistent ghost and Kevin the missing son - are left entirely unresolved. The rules of Frank's dealing with ghosts are also muddled. "Haunted" does have some atmosphere, and there are a couple of good episodes (like the one with Simon possessing the body of Frank's ex-wife's boyfriend - got that?), but on the whole it's a mediocre show and Matthew Fox should thank his lucky stars that "Lost" came along and rescued his career.
... View MoreHaunted was one of the most intense television series ever produced. The script was well written and the cinematography complemented the dark, mysterious story lines. Matthew Fox brought intensity and multi-dimensionality to his character. Although already established from the series, Party of Five, this role convinced me that Matthew Fox was (and still is) one of the best young actors on the scene today. He is also proving his talent on the hit show Lost. It's too bad Haunted didn't last longer. The Ghost Whisperer had a similar theme and seemed to last much longer (and coincidentally also used a character from Party of Five, Jennifer Love Hewitt); however, I think Haunted was a much better show.
... View MoreI am a fan of horror, thriller and suspense. SO when I seen the previews of Haunted I was definitely gonna tune in. So far 3 episodes and the show seems to get better each time. Not a let down so far. Some creepy scenes that are better than say Angel and Charmed, although those 2 shows rock. Seeing Matthew Fox playing a total opposite role from his POF role and succeeding is great to see. The dark drama in this goes along with Angel and yet doesn't follow in its footsteps. With the ghosts that apear to the visions he sees to help solve crimes makes this show intriguing and far from boring. UPN has a sleeper hit on their hands, but let's hope it doesn't fall to the way side of the other cancellations each season because of poor timeslots. I think networks have to realize that people will tape one show while watching another, seems they forgot about the invention of the VCR and timer recording. Also satellite is another thing. Miss it in the east time, watch it in the west time.
... View MoreI accidently caught the season premiere of this show while channel surfing and trying to recouperate from time I lost watching the season premiere of two other horrendous sitcoms. Boy, am I glad I stumbled upon this show. If the 1st episode is any indication of what's to come, then "Haunted" should deservedly earn the kind of respect and viewer loyalty that has endeared X-Files.Spoilers ahead:Matthew Fox (of Party of Five Fame) stars as private eye Frank Taylor, who's on the trail of a child kidnapper/murderer. He finally tracks him down and a rooftop battle ensues (guess who's going over the ledge eventually?). Frank is seriously stabbed by the kidnapper and blacks out. While on the operating table, Frank has an out of body experience and encounters both his missing child (who apparently was kidnapped years before) and the spirit of the kidnapper he was pursuing in the after life. He survives the operation, but over time he begins to discover that he is now susceptible to being spooked, as he is visited by spirits from beyond, including both the victims and the perpetrators. It's an interesting premise, as Frank is both "haunted" by spirits of his new-found ability as well as the memory and guilt of the loss of his own child. The show was very well-done and the acting was believable. I've always liked Mathew Fox, and I've always been surprised that he hasn't achieved the fame and recognition that some of his other Party of Five co-stars of lesser talent have achieved (Jennifer Love Hewitt, anyone?). Here's hoping he's got a better agent now.Overall, a highly suspensful show and scarier than any X-Files I've seen.
