And was totally surprised.I'm constantly surfing through my provider's programming guide like at 2, 3, 4 am and used to ignoring TNT's GW, Charmed and Supernatural, the latter two fine shows but not my cup of tea. Ghost Whisperer I didn't even think of checking out, basically, because I'm sick of any series with Whisperer (dogs, tots, donkeys, sharks, horses) in the title. Then 3 or 4 minutes of GW got tacked onto a movie I'd recorded and my first surprises were that the principles were full-grown adults and the cinematography was both intelligent and well-done, pace and cutting seamless. Writing was pretty good too. Everybody acted like real people and when the script did invoke surreal or spooky elements they were well-integrated and specific to the episode. Never anything done simply for effect or shock value. Not many shows, even A-list shows like Bones and Castle, can say the same.As well as the characters, the plots are generally adult, or grown-up, as well. Or at least handled as though they were grown-up, i.e. serious. For example Melinda's ability to see and interact with spirits is taken matter-of-factly by primary and secondary characters alike; no big deal. Point is to solve the mystery, why the spirit hasn't passed on, and to facilitate its passage with that solution. In that respect, GW shares a great more with police procedurals and cop shows than Fantasys with a big F.Bottom line: well acted, well written, well shot, well produced and well worth watching. Can't close without mentioning Jennifer Love Hewitt in particular, given her status. Her performance as Melinda is outstanding: low-key, believable and effective. The same goes for all of the primary and secondary characters, especially Jim Clancy as David Conrad. And even, more especially, The Ghosts, who often appear in very short, static cuts expressing a single emotion like anger, surliness, surprise or confusion, all of which are difficult to hold effectively even for a second without sinking to camp. Moreover, The Ghosts themselves develop into real characters, becoming realer as the mystery progresses toward solution, finally emerging as full-blown individuals and bringing the story to a close by fleshing-out their involvement in the story. So far I've only seen a half-dozen episodes of a five season run and, therefore, can't speak to the show's evolution but what I've seen so far has been well worth the watching.
... View MoreIt's actually -10 (minus 10) ! Jennifer Love Hewitt (JLH) should seek psychiatric help for hers narcissistic ego-trips, instead torturing us. We are simple everyday audience, not shrinks.Since she is in love with herself, JLH decided to make this show as a tribute to herself and to her beauty. To accomplish this goal, she even produced and directed certain number of episodes, and probably invested money.Well, she certainly didn't invest any talents and acting skills, if she have any at all. Studio didn't invest any writing-directing-producing skills, neither. It is completely unwatchable and annoying TV experience! Terribly conceived (Medium knockoff, awful imitation) and executed drama that should suppose to be complex, with lots of characters, scary, etc., but at the end it's a 1D, one woman show.Awful one woman show! Changing costumes and hairstyles, sleeping with 2 inch long artificial eyelashes ... Oh, God, those eyelashes !!! ... And crying at the end of every episode, while talking to air - priceless! ;-) Jennifer, you eventually made a fool of yourself, and all that in a TV show that was suppose to make a glamorous presentation of you, a homage to your beauty and creativity as well as to your taste in fashion - what a cruel way to fail.
... View MoreLove this show. Most of us wonder where we go and what happens when we die. And how many know the feeling of as if someone was there, or they heard a noise. This show provides a beautiful suggestion to possibilities.... Very entertaining... LOVE, LOVE, LOVE,... Hope there will be years to come of Melinda and her great friends.... The chemistry with the professor,...when will he come back? What about the mother? Will she ever find peace and help her daughter? So many things to yet be explored. What about the show times? It is not so great to show this at 10 PM. Many of us work and cannot stay up that long. The network does not support this show enough. It could be a great one.
... View MoreI loved the first season, then the second was alright, the third was just stupid, the fourth awful, and the last, just painful. And what's with her clothes?! It looks like she walks around the town in lingerie! Even in front of her kid! She's been covered up once. Maybe. And, when they killed Jim and put his soul inside some ugly dudes body was completely pointless. They always use Jim for her husband still, anyways, so clearly they didn't do that because they couldn't keep the actor on the show. They just... wanted to be stupid I guess? Sorry if this review is confusing. So is the show! This could have been an amazing show that could still be going, had they been better writers.
