This is where and how Americans learn to treat customer service and society workers with disrespect ("do you know who I am?"; "I want to speak to your manager!!" "Policemen, you will be hearing from my lawyer (for doing your job)"; "Oh British people, speak English!!") This just portrays poor culture even in people that show themselves as "highly educated". Horrible. The Gilmore family really annoys the sh out of me and I've seen everything. Why did I get that far? Very good question. I can relate to most of the characters but the execution of the show is just poor. No pauses between the dialogue lines and just overall annoying and obnoxious.

I couldn't get past the first few episodes. The characters are irritating and self-absorbed, too smugly convinced of their own charm to be at all sympathetic. Sherman-Palladino directs with the assumption that dialogue is banter if it's spoken quickly enough, and the result is grating. If Lorelai acted her age, and Rory developed a personality, and the jokes had humor in them, this would be a pretty cute show.

I watched Gilmore Girls with no real intentions of becoming hooked over several months. It had been recommended to me and I am so glad it was. Gilmore Girls has such a unique story with a blend of characters that are one of a kind; each has been carefully fabricated and given thought. The witty conversations and sharp comebacks made me think and then laugh. As the episodes progress you become attached to each person more and more. I do not particularly remember loving the series when I first began watching, but when it ended I felt at a loss. "Gilmore Girls: a Year in the Life" was nowhere near as good. One thing I found a bit frustrating was the predictability and over-use of irony. One character walks in at the wrong time and doesn't catch the whole story- and the truth of another. The right characters always take forever to find each other. Someone has good news but another character is running their mouth and won't allow them to share. You catch on after a while. Still, it is a well-developed show that is wonderful to watch.

I am a 30 something male so probably not who this show was aimed at. I decided to watch it from the beginning and at first it was really great and I was hooked. As it went on though, I lost interest to the point I stopped watch a few episodes from the end of Season 1. The problem is that it shows a sugar filled perfect world. The Mother and Daughter only seem to eat pizza, sweets, burgers and drink coffee but have perfect figures and perfect skin. No bad things or bad people live in their perfect town. There is no homeless or drug problems. There is a light sprinkle of non white people. There is no money problems or worry. There appears to be no crime and possibly no police. I am probably not the right target for this show. Although my wife was a teenage girl when this was first show and doesn't like it either. It is well acted. The script and fast one liners is clever. But it is very slow, nothing much happens (a cat dying takes up a whole episode) and you just end up feeling "Why am I Watching This?"
