After watching 13th season.. I am quite shocked at the turn this series took from 1st season until today. One thing I was shocked by watching throughout all seasons is the amount of mental illness Canada has... almost all of the characters have some form of mental illness, some in serious forms (Ricky, Craig, Fiona, etc.) .. some are mild. First symptom of mental illness is the belief that the world revolves around you, which seems to me is a belief every character has. Nonetheless I loved the early seasons since I used to watch them when I was in high school in Canada and they really reminded me of the good old times... but later seasons were just written scripts and acted upon by a bunch of young actors/actresses.The direction of the events are totally messed up and everything ends in the result that the director thinks is "right" ... instead of brutal and realistic outcomes.. everything is a piece of cake; whereas reality contains tons of brutality in the personal lives of people.. but all of that can't be seen in the later seasons. The first generation seasons were much better and more serious than the later ones.By events I mean events such as Rebecca standing against her family when she spent a lifetime being raised a Christian and all the sudden, the director transforms her into a gay person in less than 1 episode.. also standing against her brother in the trial. Now the trial is something else.. very disgraceful, disappointing, and disturbing outcome in my opinion.. this is when I really started to hate this show and why I put a 3 on the scoreboard. All the factors lead to Zoe losing the trial case when all the sudden she shows up near the end of the court (which is highly unacceptable in real courts) and with a low voice she managed to decide the outcome of her trial. Not to mention the director placed Rebecca's unthoughtful statement just to convict her brother.. total fail from Degrassi director. What else can I say about this show other than the fact that its glory days died with the casting of Jimmy, Paige, Elli, and the rest of them.

Honestly, i can't think of many things wrong with this show. It deals with mature subject matter on a very personal level. It encourages their audience to deal with their issues head on as well as keeping it relatively entertaining in regards to the drama in the show. The one thing i love about the show, is while the acting is lacking from the very beginning (as they as young), you get to see the characters and the actors grow into one another. The story lines ares fabulous as they always deal with interesting narratives and personal developments very well. The fact that they dedicate episodes to each specific characters troubles/scenarios/life is very original and interesting to see. It helps the audience focus on one main thing at a time as opposed to cramming in a whole lot of filler information on the entire cast. Another aspect of the show that i always found great, is that they use real Canadian actors true to the age that they play. It's refreshing (regardless of the show being 10+ years old) to see a 12/15/18 year old being played by someone of the same age, dealing with things of that era and of that maturity. This show is not rated as highly as it should be, as it is certainly one of a kind in its talents. It's relate- able, memorable and entertaining. It provide excellent information of various themes (eating disorders, suicide, gay/lesbian relationships, alcohol addiction, drug addict, teen pregnancy, etc..) as well as providing good character development, narrative and overall growth for the show. Definitely two thumbs up. However, my only problem with this show is that it isn't long enough. I could literally watch it for hours on end, and if i didn't have to change the episode every 22 minutes, i'd be a lot happier.

Degrassi The Next Generation is for sure an amazing show. From the issues it covers, to the best acting, and writing I've ever come across in TV it's no clue why this show and it's other progressers and movies have been so popular and well known. It's so relatable that it has me emotionally attached to characters that have gone through, and are currently dealing with problems I have dealt with myself. Adam being the trans gender one of the bunch had me so attached to him. I've got a cousin who's trans, and even though I'm not trans I know exactly how it feels to not be 'normal' to others around you. I'm bisexual and have been teased, made fun of... Etc.It also handles the problem of divorce which I've also been through. The character Clare who I'm most like went through it and she's also my fave.Tristan, Eli, Maya, Becky, Drew, Alli, and Jenna are also people I'm attached to from the show. Tristan for the fact of not being straight, Maya, Eli, Becky, and Drew because they go through dealing with losing someone. I've dealt with losing people through death before... So I know how horrible it is. There's also Alli who is abused a few times. Which has happened to me. So yeah it's a pretty big deal.I adore the Degrassi writers also! Being a writer myself I know it's not easy to write about such issues which really need to be addressed more.To me it's become not only my fave show on TV, but it is the most important show there's ever been. It makes people see what the world really is, what teens like me (I'm 16) have been going though and continue to deal with.Degrassi is just lovely is every way. I honestly don't see how someone could dislike it or hate it at all. It's pure gold and it's had such an impact on my life and lots of others. So if you haven't given the show a try yet... Well then go and watch it. I promise you there's more than just one or two stories that relate to you in it. It'll make you laugh, smile, happy, sad-to depressed to where you cry.So go and give this wonderful show a watch. You'll be thankful you did.

On one of the old episode's when Paige's was showing her midriffs. Nikki commented on how "obscene" the shirt was. Then Paige commented on her eyeliner. While she had a right to be mad. Paige shirt wasn't as obscene as she made it out to be. She must of been jealous because she had a better body than her. What was she suppose to wear? She sounds like a mom in over halls. So conservative. I seen girls showing much more than her. Can't women show a little skin? And on one of the episode's when Bianca sent sexy picture to Alli's boyfriend Drew. Instead of deleting the picture he showed it to his friend in class. If I was Alli I would throw his phone in the river. Showing off provocative pictures of other girls is immature and attention seeking. What kind of loser shows others provocative pictures of other girls. Real classy.
