Of all the Disney franchises my favorite has to be Duck Tales. Many people think that Duck Tales was merely an 80s TV show and never went further than Saturday morning but in reality it has a very rich history going back decades and if you think that it spoofs Indiana Jones you'd be wrong because it's actually the other way around.Darkwing Duck was a spin-off of Duck Tales, taking place in the same universe but transplanting the action from Duckburg to St. Canard. The only regular returning character was bumbling pilot Launchpad McQuack but he was my favorite, though Gizmoduck does make a couple of appearances.Darkwing himself, ordinary Drake Mallard by day, is a sort of cross between Batman, The Scarlet Pimpernel and The Shadow. He's a crime-fighter with absolutely no abilities other than his determination to beat the bad guys though his is utterly confident in himself and craves media attention. With Launchpad as his sidekick and the occasional help from his daughter Goslyn he tackles a variety of strange villains, winning usually by chance.I've often thought that a hero can only be measured by his nemesis and unfortunately none of the Darkwing Duck bad guys are up to much, but that's fine since Darkwing himself is sort of incompetent. Episodes set during the daytime contradict the noirish nature of the show and the best episodes are the ones set in the shadows and dark alleyways. I know that this is a kids show and is not necessarily in the same league as the Batman animated series but it does seem to be selling itself short in this regard. Duck Tales frequently had very dynamic and imaginative stories while Darkwing Duck is sort of hit-and-miss. That's my only complaint though.Darkwing Duck still has loads going for it, including a brilliant theme song and his memorable signature catchphrase 'Let's get dangerous' (or 'It's gonna get scary big-time' as they say in France). There still life in this bird yet and with the Scrooge McDuck universe still popular to this day then we might just see him return some time.

Disney added on to the Disney Afternoon lineup with "Darkwing Duck" in 1991. It is about a duck who is an action hero, fighting danger, saving the world!!!!! His headquarters is on top of a bridge, if I remember correctly.Although I have seen the show as a little kid, I can't remember everything about it exactly. Yes, this is another one of those "GOOD" things to come from Disney! That I agree. I'm sure kids everywhere loved this too!!!!!So, for a great cartoon that is never dull and full of thrills, look no further than "Darkwing Duck!" It'll have you saying "Great!"10 stars!Oh, and one more thing: Good Job Disney!!!!!

I loved this show as a kid, and along with 'Animaniacs', it is the only one that I have been able to go back to and re-watch with genuine delight. A spin off/ follow up to 'Ducktales', Darkwing Duck follows the adventures of a Batman-esk crime fighter, his sidekick, Launchpad (of 'Ducktales' fame), and adopted daughter Gosalyn. With their help, Darkwing battles crime in the city of St Canard, striking fear into the hearts of villains (he hopes) as 'the terror that flaps in the night'. It is a lot darker than Ducktales, however, and plays like its writers were following the Ducktales audience and evolving as they got older. In season three especially, there were some very dark story lines for a Disney cartoon, and more than one episode was banned after its initial airing! As the cartoon was largely based on Batman, so too are many of the villains based on comic book characters (The Liquidator= Hydroman, etc) and so this cartoon is enjoyable on even more levels if you are a comic fan. Though you don't have to be. The cast was amazing, with Jim Cummings heading it up as the voice of Darkwing Duck/ Drake Mallard. His fantastically over the top delivery of Darkwing's catchphrase "I am the terror that flaps in the night!" has gone down in cartoon history. He was given great support by Terence McGovern and Christine Cavanaugh as Launchpad and Gosalyn, and the supporting cast of villains included the likes of Tim Curry and Dan Castellaneta (from 'The Simpsons'). The characters they created were interesting and memorable. This show was cancelled after just 91 episodes: it could have gone on so much further! A DVD release is definitely in order here!!If you missed it first time round (where were you?), then I would definitely advise you to look it up, and if you didn't miss it last time, then why haven't you looked it up already?!One of the best TV toons Disney has ever created! Why is nothing they do now this good?

Every day from school, from 1991-1993, I would always run home from school to see the latest episode of Darkwing Duck. This action-adventure-comedy was the highlight of my youth. Back then, I loved the characters (especially Steelbeak and Darkwing himself), the majority of the story lines and the good IL' classic Disney feel that somehow lacks in today's Disney shows. The villains were always interesting, and the shows humor wasn't centered on bathroom humour, unlike a number of new animated shows.Twelve years later, after finding some taped episodes, I am still in love with this wonderful show and glad to see there are lots of devoted fans out and about. I hope to see it returned to its former glory in some form or another.
