Kevin James retreads his formula as the lovable fat guy left heartbroken when his marriage proposal to a hot blonde (Leslie Bibb) goes wrong as she dumps him.James is a zookeeper who loves his job cares a lot for the animals, has a sweet relationship with fellow worker Rosario Dawson but is looking for a career change by workings for his brother's executive car dealership. As Bibb comes back into his life, working in the car dealership and earning big bucks is an attractive option as he hopes this will win her back.So far so good but then the film throws a curve ball as the zoo animals start to speak as they do not want him to leave. So you have Nick Nolte, Sly Stallone, Adam Sandler, Cher as some of the voices and supposedly to provide some of the laughs. However James realises that he seems closer to Dawson than Bibb who has another ex boyfriend in tow and is also sad to leave the zoo.The film has a bright start as James gets jilted while he has made a big effort getting engaged but once again he attracts all the hot ladies and then you have the animals, many of them from Africa who start to speak in English and despite the famous voices, they are not really funny, some of its rather irritating. The film itself is not very funny, goes a predictable path regarding its romance and comedy. There are a couple of minor bad guys, one of them who abuses the gorilla voiced by Nick Nolte and there is very little there apart from the animals talking that makes it stand out as a comedy.
... View MoreThe story line has been consumed about a hundred times give or take, the guy loses the girl and the guy gets the girl, it turns out it wasn't what he needed, then the guy gets the other girl. The directing is good but the plot is very poor and highly predictable and anticipated, there are about a dozen movies with the same plot and a lot better than this.Although the movie is not generally good, it's funny for a family movie or a kids' movie.Kevin James did a good job, as well as Rosario Dawson and the animals are just funny.
... View MoreI'm very slowly starting to appreciate Kevin James as a comedian. Combining aspects of "Night At the Museum" and "Dr. Doolittle," this movie features James as a zookeeper with a girl problem. He doesn't have one. After spilling his problems to the animals at the zoo where he works, he starts debating on moving on with his life, but instead of losing him, the animals resolve to fix his love life and fix him up with the girl he loves. The highlights of the movie focus on James and his friendship with a depressed gorilla voiced by Nick Nolte. The effects bringing the gorilla to life are excellent, the highlight of the movie. Sylvester Stallone is a superb casting choice as the voice of the lion, and Adam Sandler sneaks under the radar as the voice of the capuchin monkey. What makes the movie appealing is James discovering his destiny with the young vet at the zoo played by the lovely Zoe Saldana and realizing that he just can't be the person his would-be ex-girlfriend wants him to be. That's what makes this movie much more than just another nauseating talking animals movie. It makes you laugh, and it makes you think. The only thing that would ruin a movie this impeccable would be trying to derive an unnecessary sequel out of it.
... View MoreI'm not sure what the negative reviews regarding this movie are about but speaking for myself and my husband, we enjoyed this movie immensely! This is a wonderful movie for the entire family and people of all ages. It's a nice, light comedy that doesn't fail to deliver. Kevin James is at his usual comic best; the physical comedy is hilarious and his timing is impeccable. You will be laughing from beginning to end. What I liked most about this movie is that it gives the animals a real voice; particularly Bernie who was once abused by another zookeeper and, as a result, got put into solitary confinement in a dark cave. This movie showed that animals do have feelings and that they need to be respected and treated with kindness and compassion. All in all, this movie is definitely worth seeing; you won't regret it!! I give this film 10 stars and a million thumbs up.
