"Why Did I Get Married" film addresses the issue of maintaining a solid relationship. In the film, four married couples who are also best friends go to Colorado for their annual week long vacation. The film stars with Dr. Terry Brock (Tyler Perry) is married to Dianne (Sharon Leal), Garvin Agnew (Malik Yoba) is married to Patricia (Janet Jackson), Mike (Richard T. Jones) is married to Sheila (Jill Scott), and Marcus Williams (Michael Jai White) is married to Angela (Tasha Smith). Over the course of the week, none of the couples probably anticipates just how eventful the vacation is about to unfold. One couple's infidelity comes out of the closet. As a result, each couple begins to question their own marriage after secrets have been revealed about each couple. Throughout, the couples battle with issues of commitment, betrayal and forgiveness while examining their lives as individuals as well as committed couples. The film explores many themes including infidelity, women's friendship and deception within a marriage. Moreover, the film shows the resultant emotional impact that infidelity plays upon marriage. Overall, in this film each couple's relationship is a mess. However, the film unfolds many unsurprising life lessons. Sheila has discovered that Mike has been cheating on her with the girl who came along with Mike at the reunion. Sheila surprising betrayal made her feels unconfident about herself. Dianne on the other hand, feels so beaten down when she finds out that Terry has done a DNA test on their daughter because he was questioning Diane's infidelity. Patricia breaks down and cries after she finds out that her husband has been blaming her over the accidental death of their toddler child. Angela and Mike have been dealing with their differences. Basically, the character Angela is so pathetic trying to find herself. "The Family That Preys" is another Tyler's film that has some similarities with "Why Did I Get Married" themes. The family that Preys is another film about women's friendship and infidelity. The character Andrea (Sanaa Lathan) is married to a trusting husband Chris (Rockmond Dunbar). However, Andrea has been having an affair with her boss William (Cole Hauser). Infidelity has a huge impact on both films because it has destroyed the relationships between couples. In the film "Why Did I Get Married" there are many techniques use to show emotional and psychological level. There is a use of a high angle shot when Sheila is driving alone in the mountains making her helpless and insignificant. Different lighting have been used to suit the mood and atmosphere of each scene in a film. The couples in the film have many similarities when it comes to their relationships. They are all willing to work on their marriage even though each couple has their own issues.

Tyler Perry's inexplicably meteoric career continues to be an enigma with WHY DID I GET MARRIED?, his 2007 comedy-drama that pretty much comes off as a blatant rip-off of the 1984 Alan Alda comedy THE FOUR SEASONS. Perry has gathered an attractive cast of African American actors together to play four couples who travel to a mountain retreat for an alleged couples seminar that turns into a weekend of ugly accusations, confused loyalties, not-so-surprising revelations, and what Tyler Perry deals in best: tired stereotyped characters. Perry has the nerve to make these people rich and upwardly mobile with high-powered careers despite the fact that most of the characters don't have a brain in their head. Perry's enormous ego once again casts him center stage as a pediatrician married to a partner in a law firm (Sharon Leal), who had her tubes tied in order to keep babies from getting in the way of her career. Janet Jackson and Malik Yorba are beyond dull as a couple dealing with the death of a child. Michael Jai White and Tasha Smith are loud and obnoxious as a couple dealing with STD's and an ex that won't go away. Richard T. Jones plays a sexist pig who makes his overweight wife drive to the retreat while he arrives by plane with his mistress. Perry's attempt to present contemporary African Americans just comes off as forced and the stereotyped behavior of some of the character in the film is just embarrassing. The only light in all this darkness is a surprisingly charismatic performance from R&B songstress Jill Scott, who lights up the screen as Jones' overweight and insecure wife who eventually finds happiness with a sexy sheriff (Laaman Rucker). There's some nice scenery and the actors try to make the most out of a pedantic screenplay, but the whole thing just smacks of "been there done that."

Tyler Perry's "Why Did I Get Married" film was based around a group of couples that took an annual winter vacation to help rejuvenate their marriages. The trip is supposed to help them recover from any loses or issues they may have been facing that year. Things are going well until one of the wives' husbands show up with an extra friend that they weren't expecting. The secret of infidelity comes out during a dinner dispute and all chaos breaks loose causing everyone to doubt the cogency of their own relationships. The film included some well known actors and artists. Everyone knows that anything with Tyler Perry's name tied to it is going to be fantastic! He's an awesome writer, producer, director and actor. Tyler Perry (Terry) plays the husband of Diane (Sharon Leal). Other characters included the famous Janet Jackson (Patricia), Jill Scott (Sheila), Malik Yoba (Gavin), Richard Jones (Mike), Tasha Smith (Angela), Michael Jai White (Marcus), Denise Boutte (Trina), and Lamman Rucker (Sherrif Troy). The theme is surrounded around making marriage work by being honest, being strong and not taking our loved ones for granted. The film starts out smooth except for the continuous arguing between Marcus and Angela which is shown early on. This couple shows up at the vacation home being anything but peaceful. Diane and Terry are often the mediators of any argument and Patricia is a psychologist that everyone runs to with their problems. Patricia and Gavin play to have a perfect relationship until secrets are revealed at the dinner table in front of everyone. Mike and Sheila are the torn couple that has the most issues due to Michael committing infidelity and tearing up Sheila's self esteem over the years. However, Sheriff Troy comes to her rescue accidentally and starts to build her up again. The theme of the movie is demonstrated by all of the stumbling blocks that the characters encounter. Some of the relationships don't end so well, which I thought was realistic. Sometimes no matter how hard you try, things just don't go the way you want them too. The point is to give it your best effort before you give up. Another lesson importantly displayed in the movie is "to be strong and stay true to yourself". These couple's were holding secrets from their marriage partners which was the sole reason why things fell apart! Each couple had their own issues but they handled them in their own ways and what they thought would work best for them. This movie showed people how helpful it can be to reach for help from an outside source. The angle and lighting in the movie was magnificent and captured my attention all throughout. The lighting displayed sadness, and anger in several areas. The makeup contributed to certain scenes like when the women were happy, they would have glowing cheeks and shiny lips. However, when they were sad, they were made to look as if they had baggy eyes and less makeup. The angles at the dinner table during the argument were highly influential. Each character that contributed to the argument had their own camera shot, alone. Tyler Perry is known for making other films and plays that have similar themes, revolving around marriage, family and relationships. Another film that he has made that had a similar them was the movie called, Madea's Family Reunion. It was similar but had a slightly different twist upholding separation if you are with someone that is unhealthy for you. This film still had a similar theme because it was teaching the audience the importance of trusting and trying for love again. Love is something that someone should never give up on and the values shown on these films are essential to any relationship. The film was fantastic and some of Tyler Perry's best work!

I really did not want to see this because I have not liked perry's other works. however, I allowed my girlfriends to drag me to it. I got what I expected. A low class movie that was very bad from the direction, to the acting, to the production. I swear, I do not know what goes through casting folks minds when they make their choices. Have they even read the scripts at all? And I guess it is asking too much for the director to direct the actors and actresses. I say this because surely he can see what is going on in front of the camera, so he must know it is awful. So this would be the time to give the actors some direction to help them become better, and make something that won't have audiences washing their eyes out with bleach after viewing this garbage, and lamenting the fact that they are unable to physically gouge the memory of having seen this from their brain. It was my fault really, I know perry sucks, i know his movies suck, and I know after the last one, I said never again. Yet I went again anyway. I need to have my head examined.
