Released in 2005, "Urban Legends: Bloody Mary" chronicles a series of horrific deaths at a Salt Lake City high school and the sister & brother who try to figure out what's really happening (Kate Mara and Robert Vito). Tina Lifford plays a pot-smoking older woman who assists the kids while Lillith Fields plays the title character. Ed Marinaro is on hand as the well-meaning stepfather running for mayor. The first two films in the 3-part series – 1998's "Urban Legend" and 2000's "Urban Legends: Final Cut" — were conventional slasher movies, but this third installment shakes things up by adding a supernatural angle, borrowing elements of "Nightmare on Elm Street" (e.g. the high school boiler room). While all three are stand-alone movies they're connected by their emphasis on urban legends and the college campus or high school environment, not to mention an older black woman who teams up with the students. The first two were released to theaters whereas this one went direct-to-video, but that doesn't mean it's inferior; it's pretty much on par with the first two movies, albeit not as slick, and in some ways arguably better. That may be blasphemy to fans of the first movie, but – come on – it's not like "Urban Legend" was some masterpiece of horror. No matter how you slice it, the first movie was a hackneyed, cartoony, contrived, over-the-top and unbelievable slasher flick; the revelation of the killer was particularly roll-your-eyes, not to mention the movie wasn't scary. It was, however, slickly made and entertaining with a great cast. The sequel was similar and highlighted by the film school angle plus Jennifer Morrison as the protagonist. This third installment, albeit less polished, goes for something a little different, is less over-the-top and succeeds with the horrific manner the eponymous character dies and the ensuing vengeful spirit.Speaking of Mary's horrible death, there are three other notable death sequences, which involve a tanning booth, spiders and an electric fence. The deaths are just more memorable than the first two flicks. In addition, the movie features a few quality females, including curvy Audra Lea Keener and cutie Olesya Rulin, not to mention Kate Mara makes for a solid heroine. Lastly, this one switches the filming locations from Toronto area campuses to a high school and surrounding neighborhoods in Salt Lake City. "Urban Legends: Bloody Mary" may not be great, but it's a decent horror flick with links to the previous two movies (e.g. Foxy Brown and the various urban legends) and delivers the requisite goods despite a flawed climax. The film runs 93 minutes and was shot in Salt Lake City, Utah.GRADE: B or B- (6.5/10 Stars)

Spoiler Alert!!! I liked this movie despite all of the plot holes in the movie. I liked how it was directed by the same girl who directed Pet Semetary which is an awesome horror movie. The only thing that really bothered me about this movie was the fact that they killed off the brother, David I mean he was the most likable character besides the lead. And at the end the sister didn't even seem concerned about her brother. I mean the villain even mentions that he's dead at the end. The film is pretty cool about these twin siblings trying to solve the mysterious deaths of all of these popular kids at their school. Little by little they learn the history about the murdering ghost. I'm surprised this film has that low of a rating because this film was directed by the same person who did Pet Semetary and that movie to me was kind of boring at times. This movie however is even more entertaining than Pet Semetary. Overall I give this film a 6 out of 10.

The second sequel to urban legend, which was an attempt to cash in on Scream, was uninteresting in my book. I found the characters to superficial. In what I'm guessing was an early role for Kate Mora, her acting skills are pretty crappy. The film starts great with a scene of a group of girls at a slumber party, but as the story progress with the kids trying to figure out who or what is picking them off one by one, just got less and less interesting as I kept watching it. The movie was cleaver, but it had a hard time trying to figure out what type of horror movie it was. Was it going to be a movie that pays homage and is satire to the Slasher flick, or is it just a Slasher flick. The film never decides and it not brilliant enough not to need to

God. I don't know where to begin with this one. "Urban Legends: Bloody Mary" has to be one of the worst horror movies I have ever seen. Definitely a top 10 contender. Here we have the third instalment of the Urban Legend franchise, this time changing it up (yeah, such a smart idea). Instead of the UL usual stalk and slash story's, this time they're brining a supernatural aspect. To be more specific, Bloody Mary. Thrilled? I think not. When the movie ended, I was kind of lost for words. I was a big fan of the original. With it's smart script, great setting, talented cast and more than enough scares, it was an instant classic. The second addition "Urban Legend: Final Cut" was nowhere near up to the standards of the first, but it was entertaining enough and a decent sequel. This however is catastrophic. This was only made for the sake of having a trilogy. The movie has so many flaws and plot holes, it's just too hard to name them all. I would also suffer a severe head pain actually trying to go through the movie again - it sounds terrifying just thinking about it - but for all the wrong reasons. If I had to pick one thing that stood out the worst, it would have to be the story. Bloody Mary?, come on, give me a break. Seriously. The third Urban Legend should have been a slasher, fright fest. Going back to the true, original style of the first. Though, I know it would have never measured up to it's first, I would have probably respected it a lot more. The story is just lazy. It lacks any real spark. It's like they read one of the most boring takes on the several Bloody Mary stories, and turned it into a film. The second flaw would have to be, yep, you guessed it, the terrific acting. Man was it bad. Every single "actor" was bad. When I say everyone - I mean everyone! Not one of these Z listers has a decent shred of good acting abilities in them. This made the film appear cheap and unprofessional. All I wanna know is, who did the horrific casting job? They should be fired! All in all this film was more than below average. More so in fact that it doesn't even deserve 1 star. It's a terrible piece of film and should be avoided at all costs!
