Sometimes you watch a film which doesn't really know what it is. You'll find the odd drama which sways heavily into comedy and then back again, leaving the viewers wondering what they're actually watching.'Botched' is indeed a 'multi-genre' film, however, it's dabblings in various genres does appear intentional. And, better still, it works. When I first heard about 'Botched' I thought it was about a bank robbery that goes wrong. The reason being that that's how it's billed. The promotional material doesn't really go on much from saying how a trio of thieves try to pull off a heist in Russia (with disastrous consequences). That makes it sound like a simple heist movie (or crime caper). However, what you may or may not know is that what transpires into everything from a slasher film to a madcap, tongue-in-cheek farce. The trio of bank robbers do indeed get more than they bargained for, but not from the authorities. The hostages they attempt to capture have more than a few skeletons in their closets, but even they pale in comparison to who's waiting for them on an abandoned floor of the building they're trying to escape from with the loot. It's hard to say who this film will appeal to, as it crosses so many genres. But, if you're generally into heads being severed and bodies being hung up and sliced at the waist (while at the same time trying not to laugh at the cheesiness of it all) you should be pleasantly surprised.Special mention to Geoff Bell who steals ever scene in his 'alpha male' persona.

However, Ritchie finds himself trapped on the high-rise's 13th floor with insane hostages, two vicious twin serial killers, and a pair of incompetent partners. Directed with assured flashy panache by Kit Ryan, with a constant zippy pace, juicy moments of outrageous gore, an amusing array of quirky characters, and a wickedly hilarious sense of wacky coal-black humor, this hugely original and enjoyable oddity hits the sick spot with very satisfying and often sidesplitting results. Moreover, it's acted with real zest by an enthusiastic cast: Jaime Murray as sultry no-nonsense businesswoman Anna, Geoff Bell as rough'n'tumble take-charge Alpha male soldier Boris, Bronagh Gallagher as deranged religious fanatic Sonya, Hugh O'Conor as nerdy journalist Dimitry, Jaime Foreman as the volatile and ferocious Peter, Edward Baker-Daly as a savage and monstrous psycho, Russell Smith as the wimpy Yuri, and Sean Pertwee as ruthless Russian crime kingpin Mr. Groznyi. The warped and inventive script by Raymond Friel, Eamon Friel, and Derek Boyle blends elements of dark comedy, grisly horror, and snazzy crime thriller into an extremely offbeat and entertaining whole. The glossy and agile cinematography by Bryan Loftus provides a cool stylish look. The eclectic score by Tom Green neatly alternates between spirited zaniness and shuddery ooga-booga spookiness. A pleasingly twisted treat.

However, if it works for you, you'll probably wonder why nobody else in the room is laughing, as you're falling off the chair, gasping for breath. Or maybe that's just me.Admittedly, this is a nonsensical, surreal story that doesn't even pretend to have pretensions toward coherence or believability. Whereas part of the movie takes place in Russia, all the "Russian" actors speak in hilariously bad, over-the-top parodies of Russian accents. This might be a deal-breaker for you, or it might be what pushes you to proclaim this the best movie ever made, to the disgust of everyone else.Trying to describe the plot would be pointless, as it wouldn't make any sense, and it sounds really dumb. The first half of the movie is more traditional, with real characters and a half-hearted attempt at a plot. The second half, however, is basically just a splatter comedy, and it pretty much abandons all the plot elements of the first half, in favor of absurdist humor and gore. In that sense, it's somewhat like Peter Jackson's Dead Alive. If you like black comedies, splatter comedies, or cult movies, you should check this out. Just be warned: it's a bit low budget, and if the thought of Satanic serial killers with really bad Russian accents doesn't make you giggle, you'll probably find this movie insultingly stupid.
... View MoreI just chose to watch this film over a quite recent Clint Eastwood film on the television. I wasn't sure that i'd made a good choice in the first 20 Min's of the film, but stuck with it. It really starts getting funny the further into the film you get. There are even moments that reminded me of "the young ones"!!! (The Rat). The characters are great and where with other horror/gore films, you'd want to strangle them at some point for their general stupidity.. the characters in this film's stupidity just makes you laugh. If you are generally into films like "Step Up" and "Legally Blonde", then this is not the film for you. This film is for film buff's and I would say give it a try.... It's one I'll be recommending to my film Buff mates as a good movie!
