I personally am not usually a fan of horror-comedy films and especially British horror movies as all apart from a select few are terrible in my opinion. Severance is a refreshing take on the horror-comedy genre and has a sublime combination of essential elements of horror such as gore, jump scares, unpredictability and well done humour which has genuine laughable moments and made me root for certain characters. The majority of the cast's acting is strong and characters can be related to which allows you to connect with the film. The plot is somewhat different than the obligatory 'people in a cabin in the woods' that you might expect and has a relatively uplifting ending.

Severance is a gory film with some fairly intense horror but it's also very funny. The actors which include Toby Stephens, Laura Harris, Danny Dyer and Tim Mcinnerny all seem to be enjoying themselves playing memorable roles as work colleagues who find themselves in a desperate situation. This film is a rare comedy/ horror that works as both and can join Shaun of the Dead, Evil Dead 2 and American Werewolf in London for successfully managing to both scare and be funny. Severance is entertaining from beginning to end and very rewatchable. An all-round stimulating thrill ride: gore, thrills, suspense, "whodunnit", laughs and fine acting from all the cast. A rare movie that actually manages to keep its audience interested throughout its duration. You really can't blink or you may miss a laugh or scare! A solid popcorn flick, best watched late at night, lights down. You shall be Entertained!

This has to be one of the worst movies I've seen. I didn't even understand that it was supposed to be funny until I came here and saw the reviews. I just thought it was a crappy horror movie.I'm the kind of person who go for the storyline first and foremost, and the storyline here is like a parody of Friday 13:th. Aren't parodies supposed to be funny? You've seen it before - a group of people is stranded in a desolate house in the middle of nowhere, and a serial killer takes them out one by one. Everyone in the house is so stupid that eventually you almost start to wish them dead.Regarding the acting and directing. I don't think they were as bad as some of the other reviews suggest, but not even a team of Oscar nominated actors/directors could lift this script. The only reason I give it two stars instead of one is that it actually made me smile a few times, and a reference to Sergio Leone near the end.

This was the first Christopher Smith movie I seen when it first came out and for the most part I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is a comedic/horror movie and although I didn't particularly find the movie all that funny or scary it was for some reason pretty entertaining. The build up is sort of long with the characters and the climax isn't anything amazing. But I never found this movie to be boring or anything like that despite the story not being all that great, the way it's directed makes the movie enjoyable. The characters get killed off as soon as they start to stand out in a quick manner which is one of it's flaws. And the antagonist or killers first start out a bit intimidating but soon just comes off incompetent. Maybe it was to give a surviving chance to the goofy characters in this movie. The thing is this movie doesn't try to be anything more than what it is. And what it is, is a enjoyable straight to DVD flick that is especially fun to watch with a group of friends. Not one of the best in this type of genre, but it's a entertaining movie never the less despite it's flaws.6.5/10
