I found this movie on Netflix and saw that Jeffrey Dean Morgan was in it, and that was more than enough of a sales pitch to make me sit down and watch "The Resident".I have to admit that Jeffrey Dean Morgan was amazing in this movie and he really carried the movie quite nicely. Hillary Swank is certainly not among my most favorite of actresses, and she wasn't outstanding in this movie. Too bad that Christopher Lee wasn't given a bigger role in the movie, because he always brings something unique to the movies he was in.The Max character was just genuinely disturbed and creepy, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan was really nicely cast for this role. The storyline in "The Resident" was quite good and captivating, which made for some adequate entertainment. While "The Resident" is indeed and entertaining movie, then it is hardly the type of movie that has enough contents in its storyline and plot to support more than a single viewing.

The film starts off quite slow I'd say... It's supposed to be a thriller and for the 30 minutes I feel this film is not going to deliver. The first 30 minutes isn't boring, it's just not thrilling. Then after the film takes a very interesting turn. That's when you realise that the first 30 minutes were significant. The film keeps you on edge and wondering what will happen. I think the film succeeds in the thriller genre unlike many other films. The film does take a creepy turn which I didn't really expect, but I suppose it adds to the creepiness of the film. This isn't a film whereby you'd specifically remember it afterwards or recommend it to someone. But it's not a bad film by any means. I've seen a lot of films with a similar genre and they are shockingly boring! And this film is not boring...I'd recommend this film... It's something to watch and it's not that long but beware of the creepiness in this film. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to watch this film.SPOILERS AHEAD: 1. Why didn't Juliet escape from the stairs during the end scene? Surely that would make more sense? 2. How could she forgive her ex husband so quickly?

I'm quite surprised by the general poor reviews here. Must be me but I found The Resident really tense, particularly towards the end, and it had me on the edge of my seat. Fine performances from Hilary Swank and Jeffrey Dean Morgan with a small cameo from the great Christopher Lee as Morgan's spooky grandpa. Swank is a surgeon by profession and moves into a new flat owned by Morgan and a relationship gradually starts to develop, however she's on the rebound from the man she really loves, so it can only really be platonic with Morgan. This brings out the worst in this disturbed character, who at first seems charm itself, but that's all I can say without spoiling the plot. I really loved this movie and there are quite a few shocks, unless of course you're used to the constant bombardment of CGI from teen movies like the dreadful Transformers, in which case it's probably tame to you. It reminded me a lot of Audrey Hepburn's brilliant thriller Wait Until Dark from many years ago.

Director Antti Jokinen must not have seen the half-dozen or so late 80s early 90s flicks like Single White Female, People Under the Stairs, Pacific Heights and Unlawful Entry to name a few. This movie is a hack. Both Hilary Swank and Christopher Lee help lend some gravitas for the cast, but this is a standard fare ordinary suspense/thriller. Run of the Mill would be a bulls-eye statement. Filmmakers "reveal" the "mystery" about 2/3 of the scant 90 min runtime. The dialog, all things considered, is not a failure. However there is almost no originality. The filmmakers don't even bother with an epilogue. It was as though the editors wanted to get the audience away as soon as possible from the stench wafting. Still if you like ordinary suspense with little originality in story, you might like this for a rainy day watch. Not Recommended, but you could actually do worse. 5/10
