Some sorry multi cultural military unit is send to the Middle East to some underground research facility to rescue some researcher after earthquakes were identified in the area. Leading the operation is some CIA girl, who happens to be the daughter of the rescuee.Once they get there they run into a priest covered in boils. Further into the facility they find corpses in various states of destruction. Also some other guy is there who warns them and when shot re-awakens. Some of these semi-living creatures vomit green stuff onto people's faces which causes them to end up with boils as well. Behind a door they find another priest. This one healthy though. And is able to give some strange explanations. Meanwhile, members of the unit start having visions which lead them to do crazy stuff. The leader of the unit also keeps remembering throughout the movie a significant event during one of their other missions in battle.Eventually they are led to a room behind another door where the source of all this is. The explanation is actually interesting and surprising. They also end up finding the dad of CIA girl, but by now he's got other plans than just leave with the unit.Devil's Tomb has a strong cast in Gooding, London, Perlman, Moseley and especially the drop dead gorgeous Valerie Cruz. The overall idea behind what is going on is actually pretty original too. It just should have been told better. Sure the movie is pretty slow and the business with people having visions and acting out on them needs also to be handled better. It is a watchable movie if you don't have too high expectations.

Scientist Lee Wesley (Ron Perlman) was working at an archaeological dig in a Middle East desert. Something happened and contact was lost. CIA agent Elissa Cardell (Valerie Cruz) directs a team of hardened soldiers to extract her father Wesley. Mack (Gooding Jr.) is the team leader. In the bunker, they encounter a priest with boils all over. Nickels (Zack Ward) stays behind while the rest goes down the elevator. There are earthquakes. They run into a zombie scientist who quotes scripture, knows their life history, and spits toxic blood. Doc (Taryn Manning) hallucinates and walks off. Hicks (Jason London) and Yoshi (Stephanie Jacobsen) guard their rear as Mack, Cardell, Click (Brandon Fobbs) and Hammer (Franky G) go track down Doc. They run into another zombie. The safe room opens and Father Fulton (Henry Rollins) comes out.It starts out as a reasonable B-movie action horror. The production is pretty low budget. Director Jason Connery is the son of Sean Connery and probably got quite a few friends to do him a favor. The actors in this are all solid. That's more than what I can say about most B-movies. The action is not particularly well shot although there are lots of shooting. The horror is not particularly scary. The constant flashbacks are not necessary. The hallucinations are not well realized. Generally, it's not well made and it descends into a lot of confused mumble jumble.

Cuba Gooding Jr.'s recent string of straight to DVD failures have been far cry's to his roles in Jerry McGuire or Shadow Boxer. But I was pleasantly surprised at The Devil's Tomb, and I found myself thinking; "Maybe Cuba hasn't gone all the way under after all."First, the Story. Second, the Acting. Third, the Action. The Story- Mack (Gooding Jr.) leads a group of Special Forces guys and gals into a creepy underground facility to find a scientist who has presumably been part of some kind of freaky experiment (This role was played by Ron Perlman, of Hellboy fame). As the film progresses, Mack and his team will discover all sorts of scary things, ranging from a creepy little girl to a creepier Bill Moseley. The Acting- Cuba is great in this, he played a great sullen character who led his team, who have their own back stories. Besides Cuba and Perlman, the cast also includes Ray Winstone, who appears in an interesting flashback. Bill Moseley is interesting as well, appearing as one of the scientists Mack and his team are sent to recover. The Action- For first time director Jason Connery, not bad. Sean Connery's son gives us a couple classic gore scenes, where the victim explodes upon being shot. He has also given us a decent set. I never found myself thinking that the characters were in a warehouse somewhere, shooting this film. I was impressed with the effects.I'd watch The Devil's Tomb again.
