When I sat down to watch the 2008 movie "100 Feet" it was solely for two reasons. The first being that Famke Janssen was in it, and the second being that it is a horror movie, of course.I hadn't heard about the movie prior to finding it by random luck. I didn't even read the synopsis, I just saw that it was a horror movie and saw Famke Janssen on the DVD front cover, and that was all I needed. It turned out that "100 Feet" was actually a rather enjoyable movie. There was a good flow to the storyline, with little useless scenes to serve as filler. Everything here served a purpose and was straight to the point. They had some really impressive effects in the movie, and I must admit that it really helped lift up the movie quite well. Especially the scene with the mauling in the bedroom. That was actually some of the most impressive special effects I have seen in a long, long time."100 Feet" was driven by a good storyline, but equally so by a rather good performance by the cast. And while they had a rather small cast, there was a bit more resting on the shoulders of the those performing. And I will say that both Famke Janssen and Bobby Cannavale carried themselves and the movie quite well. This is definitely a horror movie that is well worth taking the time and effort to sit down and watch. And there are some jump scares here and there throughout the movie.

I quite liked the premise of this film where the main character is under house arrest. The acting wasn't too bad, especially Famke Janssen. However, the film had way too many flaws for me to take it seriously and I am surprised by all the favourable reviews: The ghost was just terrible quality cgi and way too physical. It could do all sorts of things, had no subtlety and would surely have killed her long ago if that's what it wanted to do. She gave in and invited the grocery boy in for sex when she knew she was putting his life at serious risk. What person would do that?! The copper fluctuated too much in his attitude towards her..one minute hating her for killing his best friend, the next trying to exonerate her..and why would he be allowed to just camp outside her door all the time? And he would have heard the screams and been in there way before she had time to clean up so well and hide the boy's body. She realised she had to get rid of all the things connected with her husband, threw her wedding ring stupidly down the garbage disposal..putting her hand in when she knew her husband's ghost was around..and yet then still put the ring back on!!? And she stayed in the house stubbornly even though she was getting attacked all the time when if she had just run away, yes she may have gone back to prison but at least she'd have been safe?! She was in the raging fire in the cellar for ages at the end and would have died from smoke inhalation long before but wasn't even coughing!!? The bit when the ghost attacks the grocery boy was done quite well (though I still felt Marnie was at fault) but for me the whole film was let down by way too many plot holes and an angry, violent but not very ghostly or scary ghost.

Right from the first scene, the movie is very poorly executed. Director should have opted for a nice thriller with this theme. But, he spoiled it and we bear the brunt. Only good thing watchable in this pathetic movie is the good performance of Famke Janssen. Except her, none of the other actors bother to perform. A very big disappointment.

Famke Jansen does well, in this paranormal thriller, which begins well, but eventually spirals, preposterously, so far out of control in its final third, that it appears the first two thirds were written by someone other than the writer of the final third. She comes to realise that her abusive husband's ghost is still haunting the Brooklyn home she is confined to under house arrest, following her self-defense killing of him. She throws out everything once belonging to him to rid herself of his ghost, including the bags of hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash he hid under the floorboards, but excluding her wedding ring, which she still wears daily. Why does she still wear the ring? Because he couldn't haunt her any longer if she got rid of the ring, and the film would end much sooner than it does if she got rid of it.Brutal scene of her new lover being graphically beaten to death is quite difficult to watch, also puzzling: why did the ghost of her husband wait until the day after they had sex in his bed to kill him? But those are just two of the numerous unanswered questions left dangling in the breeze in director Eric Red's scattershot, inconsistent screenplay, his last to date.
