I hate this movie, its stupid, has no storyline and after being bored after 1h I really got agressive because it was so bad...waste of time!

Someone clearly watched the fantastic BBC mini series In the Flesh and then saw The Returned and decided for some reason to make damn near the same movie. If I had not seen In the Flesh and The Returned I would have found this to be a fresh take on an overworked genre, instead it's a retread that is not as good as the ones that came before. It isn't a bad movie, it's just there are better treatments of the same material, so watch In The Flesh and The Returned, then give this a go.It's well acted and directed, but just doesn't handle the material or approach as well.

So Ireland was devastated by zombies, but 4 years later a cure was found. The cured will not relapse but as they are re-integrated back into society they are largely hated by the never infected and treated very badly There is also a plan to euthanize the uncurable although there may be hope for a better cure. The cured are not unreasonably paranoid that the never infected want to wipe out the cured as well and so the cured plan to violently resist. So this is an Irish film and I can't help think this is a metaphor for the Catholic vs. Protestant troubles. The story reveals how various characters succumb to fear and hate while a few try to rise above it.I'm not really sure the film has anything insightful to say - just that fear and hate is poison that only makes things worse.

It may have been done before, but frankly, what movie isn't a spin on something done before? The acting was fantastic, the plot was interesting, and engaging, and the location was unique and added to the film as a whole-cinematically. Give it a chance. Ellen Page always floors me with her range, and this movie was a wonderful portrait of her talent. I couldn't say who the 2 main actors are-as I'm not super familiar with Irish cinema, but they too were outstanding. Highly recommend.
