I haven't written a review for some time. Primarily as I am not skilled in writing reviews. I can only tell you what I like or despise. This is the former. I liked this enjoyable monster movie, with some special, natural acting performances. OK Boar is far from perfect, but if you take it for what it is- a fun creature feature, then there is much to enjoy. While not scary, it delivers gore and has practical special effects that fans who are sick of CGI will enjoy. The monster or Bore looks as scary as a Dragon at a Chinese New Year celebration, but I think this adds to the B- movie charm. The dialogue and acting is particular good from the older actors and seems very natural. I just loved the two older characters who discover the bodies, It is a refreshing change to see older people stalked and possibly slashed by a monster. Many movies nowadays have teenagers played by 20 somethings getting killed by doing silly things. At times during this movie it is hard to know who may be the protagonists. characters are introduced and killed shortly afterwords. Many cliches abound like - Anyone having sex, will die gruesomely, buy hay? Creature fans and B movie fans should like this, and I look forward to watching a possible sequel. 8/10
... View MoreBoar delivers nothing new, and with bad acting, clichés and a puppet boar that could only have been spawned by a low budget, you are not missing out on anything. A run-of-the-mill cheap horror flick with little effort or substance.
... View MoreIt was all there.... The remote Aussie outback, the typical Aussie characters, the lovable tough guy and a monster boar wreaking havoc. This movie had everything going for it...... then I watched it. Actors over acting, throwing in way too many cliches, bad CGI, and bad script. Spoilers ahead: *every character that gets developed just ends up dying and forgotten about almost immediately. *The monster boar acts in so many incomprehensible ways its like they had no idea how a boar behaves. I'm sorry but I refuse to believe that a monster wild boar would just stand there and let someone constantly stab it, or just stand there and get punched repeatedly or just stand there and roar at people. In fact either its going full speed to run someone down or just standing still. *the ending was just ridiculous. How she managed to find the survivors in the outback in the middle of the night just at the right time is beyond me. I wanted to like this movie but it really just fell apart in the end. Almost like the writers decided it was smoko time half way through and just left it at that. If you want to watch an Aussie monster movie watch ROGUE and leave this travesty in the junk pile where it belongs. SIDE NOTE: go out into the Aussie outback with your phone and see if you get a signal.... 9.9/10 you won't get any service.
... View MoreBeing a massive fan of Razorback and other pig movies (and creature features in general) I was very excited to finally get the opportunity to have a look at Boar. The director, Chris Sun's other efforts include the nasty Daddy's Little Girl and the Slasher Charlies Farm. While they were interesting, they had some glaring problems that prevented them from being very good movies, but each movie this director makes, is a massive step in the right direction. So, going into Boar i was expecting a fun time and that is exactly what I got! In fact, I will say its better than I expected. From the great banter amongst iconic Australian actors, to the fantastic looking giant Boar, this is what you want from this type of movie. Add to that the nastiness in the gore (which you exepct from this director) Boar is a great way to spend 90 minutes if you go into it expecting a fun time!
