Possible plot spoilers, probably not. A group of teens from Helen's Valley go off on Halloween night to Wheary Falls to collect candy and canned goods for love of my horror film life, Linnea Quigley. It has all the bells and whistles that an 80's homage slasher film should have: 1) Token black guy dies first 2) People who have sex die 3) token nude scene with body double 4) Linnea Quigley 5) Metal music 6) Virgin for final girl 7) ridiculous amount of blood 8) Everyone has a jean's jacket 9) great opening scene with a little girl getting a pickax to the head The problem with the production was the acting wasn't there. Mitchell Musolino couldn't carry the lead and the rest of the cast was flat. The writer didn't know what to do with Michelle (Lexi Dripps) and created a sub par character. She should have been key at the end and had lines that would place her there. The creation of characters was poorly done. I couldn't connect.Guide: F-word, sex, nudity

If you're looking for a great movie that succeeds with trying to achieve an 80's feel, check out The Final Girls. The Barn had some great critics reviews but the acting was beyond horrible, it had none of the awesome 80's cheesy humor, and was it was boring. The gore wasn't too badly done but it was pretty basic.

Halloween, 1989: a bunch of friends travelling to a heavy rock concert stop off at the small backwater town of Wheary Falls, where they unwittingly resurrect three Halloween demons — the boogeyman, the candy corn scarecrow, and the pumpkin man — who proceed to hack and slash their way through the youngsters. The Barn is yet another nostalgic retro-styled horror that attempts to replicate the look and feel of yesteryear. Here's what it gets right: it's got an annoying group of teens, most of whom are deserving of a pick-axe in the head; there's a virginal female who is destined to be the 'final girl'; the black guy dies first; a sex scene supplies the obligatory gratuitous nudity (after which both involved meet a grisly demise); the music is spot-on, with a synth score and a few heavy rock songs on the soundtrack; and the number of deaths is fairly high, with plenty of enthusiastic splatter (mostly of the cheap and cheerful kind). But here's where it all goes wrong: the acting is utterly atrocious (even from supposed seasoned pro Linnea Quigley); the direction and editing are clumsy, most notably during the action scenes; there's way too much expositional chit-chat that really bogs down proceedings; and even at only 90 minutes, it all seems way too long, the story perhaps better suited to a short film, or as part of an anthology. I could also have done without the affected film degradation used to give the movie that authentic '80s feel—it's a technique that has been done to death.4/10. Unlikely to become a Halloween tradition in my household.

Watched this at Scares that Cares last night because my boyfriend wanted to see it. Full disclosure time :) my boyfriend loves horror movies and I tolerate watching them for him. I am SOOOOO glad he made me go see this movie! It was so much fun! He and I both enjoyed it for different reasons. He loved the monsters, the over the top kills, and the music. I loved it because it actually had a story and wasn't just some annoying kids getting slashed apart by a madman and these actor and actresses could actually act. It was refreshing to say the least. I can't wait to buy this when it comes out. If you can see this movie playing somewhere nearby I highly recommend you do.
