They needed to remake a movie from 87', the original plot would sound too 'overboard' the political correctiness yatch. Having a man basically kidnapping a rich, young and beautiful girl? naahh... So what did they do? They swapped the genders so with the feminist wave it could look ok for a woman to kidnap a man, use him as a labor, abuse him and basically rape him. Some might say the movie is just a stockholm syndrome justified.Apart from this discussion, the movie has some flaws. The two main actors are very bad, the plot is predictable, you don't really get the feeling of the movie, it never makes you think she is really poor. But, the movie can make you laugh, i laughed at it sometimes. Overall, it is not a bad movie, it's just not good either.

The thing that made the original work was Kurt and Goldie had chemistry, both on screen and off. There is absolutely none of that here. Amd I wish there was because I enjoy the original. This film drags along depending upon slapstick jokes and gross out humour. I didn't laugh one single time throughout this entire film. The people leaving positive reviews must've watched something different or be studio plants...

Just because a film is old it does not mean it is a classic. The original Overboard got mixed reviews when it was released in 1987, only finding an audience on the video rental market. This remake is uninspired, clumsy, unfunny and boring. It certainly elevates the original version thanks to the casting of real life partners Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.Kate (Anna Faris) is a hard working single mom with three daughters. She is studying for her nurse's exam and has several jobs, one being a cleaner on a yacht. Leo (Eugenio Derbez) is an aging Mexican playboy living in his superyacht and heir to a corporate empire. After an initial frosty exchange between Kate and Leo, he refuses to pay her for her work and throws Kate off his boat. Later that night a drunk Leo falls of his yacht and gets amnesia after a knock on his head.In hospital Leo's sister does not positively identify him and falsely tells her family that he is dead. Kate meanwhile gets payback for Leo's meanness and conspires to act as Leo's wife. Once he is in her home, she makes him do household duties and go out to work. Work is something Leo has never done. However over time Leo bonds with Kate and her kids. This is a an uninspired remake which just switches gender roles. There is no chemistry between Derbez and Faris and is just a crummy film.
