A Toxic piece of cinema malpractice which essential gas-iights abuse victims. Other valuable lessons: 1. Small town people are stupid, shallow, and clueless; The'll accept and go along with anything however vile that gives a hint of authority (Bullies can inspire in that way) 2. The typical big success circuit is utterly phony and populated with evil, mean, angry, and greedy failed individuals. 3. Victims of abuse are deluded losers who probably deserve it. The abuse made the good people even better. 4. Mothers are to be worshipped no matter how blind, manipulative, and enabling they are 5. No one can be told the actual truth: "I was abused" 6. To win embrace your inner hatred 7. Toughness is the highest value 8. Your book sucks, you're a phony, come back to corn-land where real people live. I wanted to rinse by brain in mouthwash. Disgusting.
... View MoreEven though 'Mr. Woodcocks' has its moments, and a relatively 'scary' premise to boot, the film fails completely in its execution and writing.Considering its premise (and most of its cast, except for Sean William Scott and Ethan Suplee), this could have been a great black comedy, but one look at the poster and the title, and you know what time it is: a(n ultimately) simplistic and in the end (confusingly) moralistic tale that really strikes no cord at all, even if the potential shines through here and there. I was warned, and I even remembered somewhere during the film that I'd tried this one before sometime...3 out of 10.

Sean William Scott , Susan Sarandon, and Billy Bob Thorton, excellent pairing,, our story is about a boy who had a horrible gym teacher,, always picking on him,, throwing the ball at him,, and stuff, so flash forward 20 or so years in time,, and our main character moves in with his mom, and who does he find dating his dear old mom. you guessed it ... the evil Mr. Woodcock ,, the gym teacher,, he spends the whole movie, trying to convince his mother that the gym teacher is no good,, he tries breaking them up several different ways, but all for not,, it appears that he is stuck with the evil gym teacher for life.. what a great funny movie,, everything was just perfect,, I couldn't stop laughing from start to finish,,
... View More1st watched 7/30/2011 – 7 out of 10 (Dir-Craig Gillespie): Funny and well-made comedy about an over-bearing gym teacher who affects an overweight youngster in a negative way, as well as most of the other students in the class. The youngster grows up and becomes an author of a kind of self-help book about forgetting your painful past, returns home to receive a local award, and finds out his mom is dating the gym teacher(his painful past). This is the setup for what becomes the un-doing of the adult, played by Seann William Scott, as he learns that he can't handle the idea of his mom, played by Susan Sarandon, being with Mr. Woodcock. Ironically, Woodcock – played by Billy Bob Thornton – is also getting an award on the same night for educator of the year. The primary stars hold their own and are funny when they need to be, but otherwise just let the script and the premise create the jokes. The director does a good job of keeping the laughs coming even when you think the movie is going to turn sappy near the end. No real changes occur in the characters – they just kind of eventually learn to accept one another, avoiding the we-all-learned-something mentality of most movies of this kind. Overall, this is a well-scripted, not overdone, but funny movie that didn't have to have a big name comedy star to make it work(or maybe that's why it worked?).
