I watched this stinker to see how the ghost was handled. The answer is very badly. Eva Longoria is a horrible actress and brings all her wooden skills to bear in this mess of a movie. The writing was terrible as was the direction. No surprise it was the same person doing both jobs badly. Lake Bell is not able to deliver a line with any kind of real emotion and this makes it painful to watch her act. I hope she had some success as a model as that is what she should be doing, not acting. This film left me feeling that the entire crew were all getting their 1st job in the business in this movie. It surprises me that Paul Rudd agreed to be in this. He must have been paying off a bet and didn't get to read the screenplay first. I watch a lot of movies and worked in the business for years so do have a good handle on what works and what doesn't. I can't say enough about how bad this is. Do not torture yourself with this nightmare.
... View MoreSince (The Philadelphia Story – 1940) I think, a sub-genre in the romantic comedy has been born. A person is torn, one way or another, between 2 lovers, especially before the moment of marrying the recent one of them. The old, mostly angry, lover did change along the years : a once-dead then-alive first wife (Move Over, Darling – 1963), a whimsical, already ghost, husband (Kiss Me Goodbye – 1982), a noisy young lady (My Best Friend's Wedding – 1997). This round, it's once-dead then-ghost noisy young lady (Eva Longoria). While having basically nice elements, it suffers from overweight and many lost chances. To instance : it develops a war between the old and the recent sweethearts, but what a weak war that is ! The ghost has magic powers, but they weren't many or creative; at one point she went to torture her opponent by non-stop talking ?! Speaking about talking; this has to be the most bigmouthed comedy ever made. It relies on conversations, LONG ones, more than the ironic image. So how about the conversations not being that ironic in the first place ! The character of the sister (played by Lindsay Sloane) was an original windbag; I felt like they had to increase the size of her role, and the time of her scenes, because she's related to the producer or something !The comedy overall wasn't right (did the hurly-burly at the lead's clinic interest you ?!). The pace is wasted with weak games. I don't recall one hilarious moment or cinematically amazing scene. It's merely the surprise of Jason Biggs's character. Moreover, the uncharismatic cast added more to the uninteresting nature of the whole thing. (Lake Bell) and (Paul Rudd) are cute but maybe for minor parts. I couldn't stand them all through it, despite useless moment like when they forced (Bell) to take off her clothes only to assure that she has *talents* ! And it's enough pain when a wonderful comedienne I adore, like Eva Longoria, who established herself in a TV show such as (Desperate Housewife), does a movie where she gives no laughs in it !(Over Her Dead Body) is not bad; it just has some wrong matters. From the endless chatter, to tries to laughing like farting endlessly by (Longoria)'s character !
... View MoreThe plot sounds interesting enough, and I was looking forward to seeing Eva Longoria Parker outside of her usual "Desperate Housewives" role. The funny thing is that her character is actually not that different from her character in "Desperate Housewives".I found the first half hour a bit slow, to be honest, and the whole movie a bit flat at times, although there were some good scenes that made me laugh. It does pick up pace towards the end, and it's probably the last 15 minutes or so that made me rate this higher than I would have earlier on.I guess it's a nice enough movie and probably what one can expect. It's certainly no award-winning flick, but then I guess it wasn't meant to be.
... View MoreJeff Lowell has written & directed 'Over Her Dead Body' poorly. The idea is first of all, is as stale as my jokes and the execution is just a cherry on the cake.Minus Eva Longoria Parker there is hardly anything appealing in this film. Eva looks great as ever and delivers a likable performance.Paul Rudd looks jaded and least interested. Lake Bell is a complete miscast. She looks manly and delivers a strictly average performance. Jason Biggs is wasted, so is Lindsay Sloane.I expected entertainment more from this film. Sadly, I didn't get entertained.
