Last Passenger Trailers

Independent British thriller starring Dougray Scott and Kara Tointon. Lewis (Scott), an overworked doctor, is on his way home from London with his young son Max (Joshua Kaynama). Clearly exhausted from his work, Lewis decides to take a nap on the train while an attractive young woman (Tointon) watches over his son. When he wakes, all but a few passengers have alighted and he realises that the train is not stopping to let anyone else off. Determined to get to the bottom of the mystery, Lewis goes to investigate and finds that the train has been taken over by an unstable driver who is hellbent on destroying the vehicle along with all the remaining passengers on board.

Dr. Lewis Shaler (Dougray Scott) is riding a late night London train with his seven year old son Max (Joshua Kaynama) Max is a bit rambunctious and through him he meets another passenger, the flirty Sarah (Kara Tointon). We get to know these characters as we watch others, especially a disagreeable young man (Iddo Goldberg) who catches everyone's attention. Soon the train has a problem which demands the remaining passengers take action. We then get to meet two elderly passengers (David Schofield, Elaine Middleton). The passengers work together to confront the problem. We get to see character testing, character building, and some heroics. The acting was good. The plot and action was enough to hold my attention, but not enough to get excited over. Most films of this type have a subplot consisting of events that are taking place outside the train. This one does not. This is more of a concept film that keeps the viewer on the train.A film you will forget shortly after you watch it.Parental Guide: F-bomb. No sex or nudity.

I have just watched this movie and although it's never going to be a classic I considered it a perfectly good watch for its 1hr 36 minutes. The premise of the movie is not original nor is the progression right through to the end but as a complete movie it delivers most respectfully. Naturally you will get the anorak geeks on here slating the movie for technical inaccuracies but if I wanted to know the exact workings of a train I'd not have any friends and sit on a train platform with a Thermos of tea and a note pad like these 'Billy-No-Mates' do. For normal people I want to just be immersed in a film for 1.5 hours. I thought the acting was OK and contrary to one reviewer from Bermuda, Dougray Scott's voice is clear and not a mumble, nor is is it a strange accent. Typical of someone not from the UK thinking all Scots should sound like either Billy Connolly or Mrs Doubtfire! Yes I sound like Dick Van Dyke from Mary Poppins because I come from London! All in all a good film to pass an afternoon with.

There is nothing wrong with this movie and it's a darned sight better than many others out there. Good acting, excellent FX (for it's low budget), good suspense, explosions, interesting characters - a love story & a cute kid. What more do people want? I really don't understand the angry hate being thrown at that poor child actor - guys, he's a 7 year old CHILD! ROFL Are you expecting an Oscar- worthy performance? I actually think he did an outstanding job and was very believable unlike many of the Hollywood child-faves who so often come across as way too adult and precocious to convince me. As for all the high-horse comments about the accuracy of certain details - come on... really? Personally I couldn't give a hoot about what trains run where or how railway couplings really work and know nothing about London's train service or how far things are from other things in jolly old England. If you do then congratulations, you know stuff I don't. But it doesn't really matter in the slightest for this movie and viewers like me don't know or care. It's fiction, roll with it, I don't know of any movie that's 100% believable or factual, not even documentaries. Anyway - if you're looking for a light thriller that's well produced and a little different rent it and enjoy. It's not the greatest thriller ever made but it's not a bad little flick.

This review is a little pre-emptive as I've ordered the film but as yet only seen the trailer. As an ex-railway man and lifelong rail enthusiast, I'm drawn to any film that features British trains and, good or bad, simply have to see them myself. Normally if British trains are used in films there is usually a major fault with how they look (a couple of UK sitcoms suffer from this). From what I saw in the trailer, they have the look of this one pretty spot-on. It is obviously a Southern Region 4CEP, 4CIG or something of that ilk which were used on lines from London to the Kent coast until the last few years. I've read the other reviews, good and bad, and am prepared to form my own opinion on viewing the movie. So far it looks impressive and I've given a reasonable rating purely on the preview.
