Kronk's New Groove Trailers

Kronk, now chef and Head Delivery Boy of Mudka's Meat Hut, is fretting over the upcoming visit of his father. Kronk's father always disapproved of young Kronk's culinary interests and wished that Kronk instead would settle down with a wife and a large house on a hill.

A while back I rewatched this movie with a friend more or less as a joke. But wile watching, I realized...It's not that bad.In fact, It's pretty good. Granted, it's not a great film but considering it's a straight-to-video sequel that no one asked for, they actually seemed to make it work. The movie takes a look at the life of the original film's comic relief character Kronk. A character who, originally, was nothing more than a goofy ripped guy who could cook and talk to squirrels. But in this film, they actually gave Kronk the depth he deserved. It's also surprisingly funny. the work itself is probably a 5 or a 6.But then I took into consideration the following:It seems as though Disney actually hired competent writers and animators to make a cheap sequel this time around. It feels like the writers truly cared about the first film and the work they were doing. They stayed within the thematic and tonal confines of the first film while also keeping consistent with the same brand of humor. This film was a labor of love. And though it's far from perfect, they managed to make a decent film in a low budget studio that is known only for continually producing DVDs of crappy sequels that do nothing except tarnish the rep of the films they're spun from.So I give it 10 stars for being the best Straight-to-video sequel out there.

What we have here the standard Disney direct to DVD sequel, where I would expect cots are cut in all areas resulting in an okay animated movie that falls well short of the original. That is not to say that this is a terrible movie it is just that it is a very mediocre movie full of the preachy messages intended to show children the virtues of friendship and being nice to one another and unless done subtly (which it is not here) can quickly become grating for adults. The film has a very thin plot line with Kronk trying to win the approval of his father, and ending up finding the true meaning of wealth and success. This has it's comedy moments but is really nor enough to carry a full length film.

Another unnecessary sequel from those pesky cartoonists at Disney, right? A less-than-acclaimed original in the first place, right? Sure, I can agree with those sentiments; after all, I thought them as I popped in the DVD, watching only on the recommendation of a less than reliable source. Yet all I can say is I enjoyed it."Kronk's New Groove" includes some of the crude humor becoming increasingly present in Disney's 21st century work, but beyond that point it is a fun little story about burly henchman-turned-chef Kronk, best remembered for his idle squirrel chit chat in the original. Here, Kronk finds himself trying to please his father, but struggling when his conscience intervenes with his efforts. But story is not what carries this movie. It is the delightful anachronisms, the self-defacing humor, the cross-dressing, the parodies, and the PERFECT voice provided by Patrick Wharburton to Kronk that makes this so much fun. The story alone is predictable, but with edgy humor ornamenting it, the movie draws laughs (and maybe even a tear). So before writing "Kronk" off as another waste of time and animation by the Disney brain-trust, check it out at Hollywood Video or Blockbuster. It was well worth the $3.00, in my opinion.

Ewww! A Disney sequel that is rubbish! Who would have thought it? Actually, quite a lot judging by the comments here, and they aren't wrong. I actually looked forward to seeing this awful film based on my liking of the original. And therein lies Disney's whole "cash-in" mentality. Shovel out any old junk on the back of a success and people will go for it. Don't think they are that cynical? Ask yourself this, then....How many Disney films have sequels? And then....How many of those sequels spawn a follow-up? A significantly lower number.Kronk's New Groove is just another example of this. The plot is laughably simplistic and drawn out. Even more annoying was the increased number of "out of place" items and scenes - an old folks home for example and, God forbid an Aztec version of the Boy Scouts! Worse yet, Kronk's opposing Chippamunk leader has a completely bewildering over-the-top English accent for no reason whatsoever. An accent that was, after a very short while, intensely grating on the nerves. There are a couple of good things. The animation is very nice and the voice talent do well with the sub-standard dialogue they are given - especially Warburton in the lead role. But other than this there really is nothing to recommend it. Sure, little kids may like it, but there is little to amuse mum and dad whilst they sit through this tortuous maiming of the original concept.Avoid this monstrosity with the same zeal you'd use in avoiding a pack of ravening man-eating lions.
