Guy Ritchie is known more for his romance and marriage to Madonna but he is a very talented filmmaker and snatch is a prove of this. This dark comedy/crime caper is an absolute laugh riot with some amazing dialogues that will have you rolling and characters you will remember for months. Rooted in the London Underworld Snatch is about a stolen diamond and believe it or not- boxing. How these two come together is for you to see and judge. Great performances, tidy flow and expert direction makes Snatch a must watch.
... View MoreSeen it multiple times now and I really think that "Snatch" tries too hard to be funny and cool. It is the british wannabe brother of Tarantino. It does make for an enjoyable watch though, but the style over content attitude becomes tideous at some point. Still it is funny at times. A lot of action, you wont get bored. And there is some good acting by Brad Pitt amongst others. A diamant gets stolen. And stolen again. And again. That's the story. Next to that there is another "storyline" in which Brad Pitt needs to go down in a boxingmatch in the 4th round to please some gangsta boss. But he wont go down. And he wont go down again. A lot of chases, threats and shootouts is what follows. The speed of "Snatch" is suited for kids wiht ADHD. The cussing is suited for whoever likes it. It looks like a trailer for a movie instead of being a movie itself because the speed of this thing is so fast that it becomes boring at times. As I said I have watched it multiple times already, so there is definitely something that is enticing, but there is something lacking also. Good B movie, for those who prefer style over content. And there is definitely a market for that. Me being one of those people, because sometimes I just like to see a mindnumbing action movie. When I watch it with that attitude in mind, "Snatch" is rather enjoyable...
... View MoreIf the only thing you know about the director of Snatch is the he is (or was) Madonna's husband then you have not been following his career. That was my case. So, when I heard this movie receive a lot of praise I wondered why. Now, after watching the film twice, I understand why it was hailed so much. To round it all off, Guy Ritchie is not only the director but the scriptwriter, which goes a long way to explain why the film has become a cult film for so many people all over the world. One does not know if Mr Ritchie's wife talents might have rubbed off one her husband, or perhaps the other way around. This is a joke, one that was aimed at get you in the right mood to watch the film, for this is a film that is riddled with pranks, gags a witty comments. There is crime and violence too but it is just a means to and end. The plot is twisted as you would expect in a film this good and the the characters live up to everyone's expectations of London's underground world of unlicensed boxing, gypsies, gangsters should be like. Yet I would not like to focus on any actors in particular, I believe that what Brad Pitt does with his character is beyond almost every actor's reach. His impersonation of a gypsy boxer is as accurate as it can be.
... View MoreI get that at the time this came out, there weren't legions of such action packed convoluted rougher type comedies, but for crying out loud 'Lock' came out before this, by the same Guy Ritchie, and it was heaps better. If anything, strangely enough, it feels like Lock was the more mature film made some years later, not before. It's not as smooth in the action sequences, it's got too much talking that doesn't amount to much effect, pretty stupid braindead type dialog, supposedly witty but really completely forgettable banal lines, tries hard in many places; something like Brad Pitt's character was good in concept but honestly could've been much funnier in execution, they could've really made him sound hilarious when here he's just confusing to listen to.Where 'Lock' had lots of well incorporated subplots and micro-twists, this here gets overcomplicated too fast, too many characters, and the viewer can't be screwed to put in all that effort to remember insignificant details, as the film never makes it a point to warrant your full attention on every aspect of this very ordinary production. Too much focus demanded for far too little a reward.5.5/10.
