Well this wasn't a great movie by any means, very low budget and from what I understand straight to DVD which makes sense. Dolph gives a decent performance though in his role as a former KGB agent and sleeper spy, trying to break from his dark past and go straight. He's forced back into the killing game when his cover and career as a hit man is blown and he and his family (and girlfriend) targeted. It is what it is, a low budget, B action flick. There are some OK fight scenes and shootouts, zero special effects though which limits things. And while I appreciated that this was in filmed in Vancouver and actually took place in Vancouver it was also fairly obvious that when Icarus/Eddie was supposed to be in Russia or China he was still in Vancouver.Dolph does do a decent job with his role -he's better than anyone else in the movie which unfortunately isn't saying much and he's (still) very nice to look at. 1/13/16

This will be a lame review . Just as lame as the movie itself . The only good think I can say about "Icarus" is that the opening credits are cool . And that we have 3 sexy ladies in it. That's it. Lundgren can give a watchable performance , but here he is just goddamn awful . He acts like he barely can speak English . It's strange , because he's a well educated man , so I know that's not the reason . So what ? Maybe it's the lack of charisma or any idea for how to play his character ?I rally don't know what to write about this movie . It's boring . Action scenes are dull . The dialogue is pretty bad . The story is thin. The acting is unimpressive. The whole pseudo-deep ramblings about choices we make are rather shallow. And what's with the cliffhanger ending?Better watch "The Professional" with Jean Reno . I give it 1/10.

Dolph Lundgren made a competent work as a director in Icarus, much better than the one he did in his previous movie as a filmmaker, the tedious Command Performance.Icarus may not be a great movie, but I found it to be entertaining and very superior to many action movies made straight to DVD.The screenplay of Icarus has various clichés directly taken from many action movies from the 90's, which do not offer something new to the old formula of persecution and revenge; however, screenwriter Raul Inglis made the human element behind the violence to be credible, something which adds a varnish of emotion to the screenplay. The result may not be brilliant, but it feels more honest than many movies about "alcoholic ex-cops who must defeat an enemy from the past", or something like that.I also liked the fact that the main character is a murderer with a golden heart, so that we constantly question ourselves about the morality of his actions and our reasons to wish his triumph. That trick is undoubtedly copied from the film The Professional, but it still worked in Icarus (respecting proportions, of course; remember I am talking about a low-budget B-movie).Unlike Steven Seagal, Lundgren is conscious of his limitations, as we can see in this movie. To start with, he carries his age with dignity and does not try to make us believe he is 25 years old.The abundant action scenes are consistent with his character, who occasionally triumphs due to his experience and ingenuity, and not because of being omnipotent or infallible.Besides, I feel that even Lundgren himself recognizes the fact that he is not a good actor, and because of that, he filled the other roles with solid actors; I particularly liked the work from Samantha Ferris, Stefanie von Pfetten and Bo Svenson, because they all bring force and conviction to their characters. So, in conclusion, Icarus is not an excellent or very memorable film; but I personally had a good time watching it, and I think that makes it worthy of a recommendation.

First, i just don't understand the negative comments here, everyone thinks that this is a "True Lies" rip-off, there is only ONE element that resemble True lies (the family man with the double life), i don't understand people that says "boooooooooooring", or "it's not a kill fest, watch the trailer if you want a kill fest"...hum....did we watched the same movie ? Icarus features well executed and well done action scenes, with violent and bloody action.Dolph gives a good and strong performance.Dolph Lundgren shows that he is good at directing, someone should give a big budget, he reached the same league as Sylvester Stallone, both starring and directing some of their films.
