The Reader Trailers

The story of Michael Berg, a German lawyer who, as a teenager in the late 1950s, had an affair with an older woman, Hanna, who then disappeared only to resurface years later as one of the defendants in a war crimes trial stemming from her actions as a concentration camp guard late in the war. He alone realizes that Hanna is illiterate and may be concealing that fact at the expense of her freedom.

The ReaderThe innocence and the selfless act behind it is the key and the makers were aware of it and narrows it down to it and brings out the best from the book gaining passion, attention and love from the viewers. Stephen Daldry despite of possessing such a beautiful script fails to project it on screen convincingly which makes the audience switch seats on picking a side, for the writing and adaptation is equally powerful on the other side. As these features require, the performance is not compromised on any level by Kate Winslet; she is brilliant, and also Ralph Fiennes from the supporting cast. The Reader has a powerful yet beautiful concept as we all are aware, but also the adaptation and the editing which provides enough space and range to the characters and the actors to flaunt themselves but what's indigestible is the execution and it doesn't pay well in the end.

The director Stephen Daldry brings to life The Reader, a romance between a teenage boy, Michael Berg (David Kross), and an older woman, Kate Winslet (Hanna Schmitz). It's filled with hard emotions, love, drama and a touch of sexuality. The story goes along the years 1965 and 1995, where Michael is played by two actors, David Kross as young Michael and Ralph Fiennes and adult Michael. In these 124 minutes, we get to see the first love of young Michael, the difficulties a teenager goes through when dealing and understanding someone from the opposite sex, especially an older woman. We also get to see the enthusiasm, anxiety and passion that this first love makes him feel, like nothing else in the world mattered, only her.I went through a roller coaster of emotions throughout the movie. I felt in love, devastated, afraid, pity. A lot of things (good, but mostly bad) happened between Michael and Hanna during the years, but, somehow, a little flame of love and caring remained untouchable, even if they did not show it to one another. In a way, it made me feel like I was watching a fairy tale surrounded by a horrifying reality, waiting to see prince charming saving the damsel in distress. The music throughout the movie was on point. Right moment, right time, right tune and right tone. Really helped intensify the emotions I was feeling, as well as guide them on the correct path.A captivating love story, kept me glued to the screen from start to finish, with a lot of details to enjoy and feelings to feel. A great work, a great watch, a great time. 8 out of 10.

I sit down hopeless before the TV screen, press play and wait. What happens over the next two hours isn't a miracle, let's be honest, but at least it's good enough to drag me out of my boredom. A good film may have that effect on you, sometimes even inadvertently. That's what The Reader is, a good movie. What else does one need in life to be happy? The backdrop that serves as context for the story is a very well known one: Germany, the 30's and Nazism. Here we have just another sample of those trouble years in Germany's history. Kate Winslet plays the role of Hanna Schmidt, former Nazi collaborator who's now trying to make a living after the war. By chance she meets the young and naive Michael Berg, played in the younger and grown up versions by David Kross and Ralph Fiennes, respectively. Since the onset of their relationships it's pretty clear their characters feel drawn to each other. The age gap, over 15 years, doesn't seem a problem. On the contrary, it goes a long way to paint an accurate picture of the German society of the time: the young generation who will have to build their lives trying to put the war behind them and the generation that's in the middle of his life, the one who took an active part in the world, take up arms or turning a blind eye on what was going on.I'll spare the reader the sex scenes that make up most of Michael and Hanna encounters. In my opinion, they're secondary to the film. Just and excuse to drive the story forward, to drive us into the heart of a character who's been seeking for redemption. Is there such a thing in the world?

Kate was extremely good I think young Berg was better than older The plot was marvelous. It was astonishing. One of the greatest love story But the performances of sexual scenes were mediocre. Overall it's a 10/10 movie . The novel is better than it. It's a must watch movie . The best acting performance by Kate.
