The two things that saved this movie are the fight scenes and Jackie Chan. The fights are spectacular, fast and straight up, no props. Not that I don't love great Jackie Chan fights with props and acrobatics, but when you strip everything down, just watching these two guys go at it and how beautifully they move is exciting. I like seeing Jackie do something serious and romantic. He does it well and he's hot! I didn't need this movie to know that - Jackie's been hot since Drunken Master. But in Gorgeous, you see him take some long, pretty looks into the camera and the camera loves him right back. I liked his character in this movie - reminded me of a lot of guys I know - and I like the way he played it casually and subdued. More realistic than the slick talking egomaniac type of character than we usually see in that role. Most guys you meet in real life who have the status of Jackie's character in this movie are much like how he played it - quiet and confident alone, somewhat awkward with other people. I thought that was pretty perceptively written and something you don't see very often, unless it's being overdone. The overall concept of the story wasn't bad, but a lot of scenes are resolved far too easily and unrealistically. I won't include details here so as not to give spoilers. But even comedies should be somewhat plausible in scene resolution. What really killed it for me was Qi Shu's character. I looked up her real age and she was 22 when this movie came out, so she might have been around 20 when they made it. WHY does she look, act and talk like she's 15? I get that her playfulness was what attracted him, but a grown man attracted to a girl who skips around like a little child and eats like a 10 year old boy just doesn't work. She could have been playful and charming in a far more mature way and it would have made a huge difference.

I have always loved watching Jackie Chan movies. Seeing the title & cover it didn't look to be pleasing. But oh my god It is so funny & nice in many ways. Jackie has always made good movies. I never seen or heard of this until the past couple days & checked it out.I don't laugh much in comedies but This is funny I like it.Hopes everyone else enjoys this twisted plot. I give it 10Stars This is most worthy.Who is the girl as she is very cute. And plays the part very well I will be checking out more movies of Jackie to check out. Hopefully there will be more with this girl or other movies I could see.

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but Shu Qi was the reason I wanted to see this film...Jackie Chan's appearance was a positive, but not the driving reason. I must admit I had my concerns, as I didn't care very much for "Love Me, Love My Money," (another Shu Qi/Tony Leung movie), nor for "Kung Fu Hustle." I thought perhaps that humor in Chinese culture does not translate well with Western audiences. So when I saw "Gorgeous," I was pleasantly surprised. While I haven't seen many Chinese romantic comedies, this was by far the best one I've seen. Shu Qi - one of the most beautiful women in the world, I think - is absolutely adorable in her role. Jackie Chan does his usual great job, although I was surprised that Tony Leung would take such a minor role in this movie.I wish I had seen the uncut version, but then again, perhaps it would have dragged the film down for me, and/or had Chinese cultural references that would have made no sense to me.I can understand if people were disappointed in this film if they were expecting a Jackie Chan action flick. There is action, but it's also a romantic comedy.

Jackie Chan has made some good films (Police Force, Rumble in the Bronx, etc.), but most of his most recent work has been sub-par. This film hits a new low. It is incredibly dull, shored up by only 2 decent fight scenes in the entire movie (the second of which was marred by a ridiculous tango sequence midway through). There is little plot to speak of, other than Shu Qi going to Hong Kong because she finds a note in a bottle. The rest is pure rubbish. It is one of those Ernest films where the henchmen all look at each other, grab their faces, and scream at least 20 times in the movie. It was funny when the 3 Stooges did it back in the 40's, but it is no longer even remotely humorous.Just about the only thing I can say about this horrid film is that the female lead is very attractive, hence the title. Other than that, this picture is a dog. The sparse action scenes have all been done (by Jackie Chan no less) in many other movies, and done considerably better. There is really nothing at all to the "love story", it is so incredibly contrived that it just comes off as a big joke.Very very poor outing for Jackie Chan.R.
