Something to be avoided for most fans of Jackie Chan, this is a slow-paced comedy-cum-romance that rarely reaches the level of his other movies. For an action lover its definitely his worst film because there is only one decent fight, right at the end. Otherwise we get a sappy Chinese romance with lots of unfunny humour, stupid situations and a really annoying sentimental performance from Shu Qi (who fared much better in THE TRANSPORTER with Jason Statham). The stage is shared by lots of other unnotables, including the increasingly annoying Tony Leung (whenever I see this guy's face, I just wanna punch him) and lots of stupid goons. The comedy is really overdone here, more so in a typical Hong Kong actioner, with lots of gurning villains and a nice "no violence" feel over the whole thing.Ugh! Who wants to see Jackie Chan in a sentimental romance? His performance is fine, but he's wasted here and this is NOT the type of film on which he built his success. Realising this, the producers shoehorn a few scenes of action into the plot, but it's very staged and nothing special. The only really good scene in the film is the final boxing match between American champ Bradley James Allan (whose fighting is sheer brilliance) and Jackie, which is a really good one-on-one showdown with tons of intense punching, incredible leg work, and more flexability than a rubber band. If you must see this movie, just fast-forward until this fight; I can guarantee you won't be missing much otherwise.

Review: I have seen some bad movies starring Jackie Chan lately but this one has to be the worst. The silly storyline and mediocre action scenes were terribly put together by the director and it really felt like he was making it up as he was going along. Anyway, while Bu (Shi Qi) is chatting to a dolphin in her small fishing village, she comes across a message in a bottle signed "Albert" and then she sets off to Hong Kong to look for him. REALLY! When she finally finds Albert, he actually turns out to be gay and he says that he sent the message to his boyfriend. As she travelled so far, he decides to let her tag along while he takes photos of models on a boat were she witnesses the dashing, rich Jackie Chan on a boat being attacked by hit men. She then realises that she has skills to drive a boat and she rushes to his rescue. For some unknown reason, she lies about who she is and she says that she is a refuge so CN Chan (Jackie Chan) takes her to his mansion and let's her stay with him. He soon falls for her gullible but sweet nature and you can clearly see that she likes him too but she leaves his house and goes back to were she originally was staying. Chans long time school friend, who is actually his arch rival in the stock market world, sends out his goons to beat up Chan because he wants to prove whose the best, which seemed a bit stupid to me. Anyway, the girl soon realises that she has fallen for Chan and she goes out of her way to meet up with him again. Whilst fighting off various goons and looking after his investments on the stock market, Chan also longs to meet up with her again because she brought some joy to his, somewhat, secluded life. Basically, they are destined to be together! The young girl, who played he main character, got on my nerves right from the very beginning but I liked seeing a debonair Chan, even though the storyline was ridiculous. The action scenes didn't really make any sense and the rivalry between to two school friends who fell out with each other because of a girl, was also badly written. I don't understand why the girl had to lie about her past because she really didn't have any reason to. At the end of the day, I honestly think that this film was a waste of time and money but on the plus side, you do get to see a romantic side to Chan which proves that he's not all about the action. Terrible!Round-Up: This movie was directed by Vincent Kok, 50, who also brought you Dragon Reloaded, Marry A Rich Man, Forbidden City Cop and Only Fool's Fall In Love, the Oriental version. I personally think that he made a right mess of this movie but it might have worked for the audiences overseas. I'm yet to understand there sense of humour, from a movie point of view and after watching this movie, there romantic movies are also questionable. I shouldn't use this movie to tarnish the Oriental market with the same brush but I really didn't get it. Hopefully, the next movie that I watch from Jackie Chan is much better.Budget: N/A Worldwide Gross: HK$40,545,889I recommend this movie to people who are into their action/drama/martial arts/comedies starring and written by Jackie Chan. 1/10

It appeared to me that the words being spoken didn't match the way the actors' lips were moving. And if this did, in fact, mean the movie was being dubbed, it wasn't dubbed very well. Some of the characters just seemed like complete clowns. Not that there was anything wrong with that. This was a very funny movie.Bu was absolutely adorable. Too adorable, in fact. Much of the dubbing of her material was entirely too cutesy. It made her appealing to me, but it just seemed to take away from the movie's quality. And if the title referred to her--well, she was.But the comedy, the fighting, the romance, the mystery--all were enjoyable. Jackie Chan's character was quite appealing. Not really as miserable as Bu seemed to think. But Bu brought him out of his misery, and we had to wonder: would she end up with him or one of the other guys? When I saw this, it had a TV-14 rating. Totally uncalled for. What violence this movie had was mostly slapstick. Even one of the two serious fights turned slapstick at one point, and that was great.Bu's parents were quite appealing too. The other characters I haven't mentioned all seemed like cartoons. But if that's what you like, and I do, no big deal.Gorgeous? Maybe. But I think the title referred to the girl. The film? Very enjoyable.

Perhaps I'm in the minority, but Shu Qi was the reason I wanted to see this film...Jackie Chan's appearance was a positive, but not the driving reason. I must admit I had my concerns, as I didn't care very much for "Love Me, Love My Money," (another Shu Qi/Tony Leung movie), nor for "Kung Fu Hustle." I thought perhaps that humor in Chinese culture does not translate well with Western audiences. So when I saw "Gorgeous," I was pleasantly surprised. While I haven't seen many Chinese romantic comedies, this was by far the best one I've seen. Shu Qi - one of the most beautiful women in the world, I think - is absolutely adorable in her role. Jackie Chan does his usual great job, although I was surprised that Tony Leung would take such a minor role in this movie.I wish I had seen the uncut version, but then again, perhaps it would have dragged the film down for me, and/or had Chinese cultural references that would have made no sense to me.I can understand if people were disappointed in this film if they were expecting a Jackie Chan action flick. There is action, but it's also a romantic comedy.
