It definitely wasn't the final one but I find this to be a fun enough chapter in Jason's bloody saga of tense stalking, ambushed and creepy forest death, for me it gets a bit thin and draggy in the middle and some of the cast members are a little more grating than they should be, but it certainly gets off to a very good strong start, beginning right on the aftermath of Part 3 with Jason even being in the same position that we left him in. I think one of the most genuinely eerie moments in the whole series comes at the end of that opening sequence as all the noise and lights at the site of the previous massacre disappear and leave everything in lonely darkness... I also love the whole following scene at the hospital which was always very memorable to me because hospitals are already plenty spooky on their own, and a goofy mortician gets his head twisted off while watching freaky 80s aerobics porn! Something that annoys me big time about this one is several of the 'teen' victims, to each their own but I really don't get what's supposed to be so super relatable and fleshed-out about them, I think they're mostly just very stupid and annoying, their whole chunk of the movie is a bit too obnoxious for me to get all that into. I did like Crispin Glover's character though, because even in this early role the guy knew how to stand out in a crowd and be interesting just by being himself and this is no exception, he's great as an awkward complete dork who still manages to score with a hot twin even though his friend kept teasing him about how much he couldn't and calling him that dumb name! He was hilarious cute and charming...that dance though.. I think a big part of what makes for a good slasher is simple consistent scary atmosphere, a good hook, and definitely having one or two characters that you actually do care about amid the faceless whack-a-mole ones, and it seemed especially cruel and unfair to me how the mother of Tommy and Trish Jarvis was killed off, because for her few scenes before she vanishes from the movie, the woman did a good job of establishing herself as a loving mother and a very sympathetic character. I really wish they'd have chosen to conclude the movie with the nightmare that Trish has where she finds her mother's ghostly body in the bathtub instead of closing it with the off-putting image of Corey Feldman's weird ugly bald head and how he gives the camera that completely unnecessary ominous look that really just raises more questions instead of offering any kind of finality. In any case though it really was the final chapter of the still fairly mortal but not too much less deadly at all Jason, after he was brought back he was basically the same but in terms of vulnerability and threat level zombie Jason was considerably different. The look and movements of this particular Jason are fine, but what really jumps out at me is the viciousness of his attacks, especially against the poor guy who he harpoons right square in the dick, hoists him into the air with it and then pulls the trigger! And despite having a rather lumbering gait he sure was a sprightly Jason, willing to swim out to a dinghy and even scale the outside of a house to get his victims! The gore effects are terrific without being over the top, Tom Savini's manufactured wounds have a certain distinctive realness to them that is very much his own style and his work holds up. I think my favourite part of this movie may be the final act and run through the house of horrors and confrontation, Kimberly Beck really comes into her own like many Friday final girls before and after her and it's just a very well shot and thrilling and suspenseful sequence. So while this movie is not one of my favourites amongst the Jason pictures, like the rest of them apart from Part 9, I find the overall viewing experience to be one that's very charming and entertaining, these flicks were never meant to be high art, at a guess I'd say they never had any major aspirations beyond hopefully giving the viewer a scary fun time, something which to me most of them succeeded at fantastically. A colurful and fun solid chapter that's not perfect but is, if you have a liking for this particular brand of harmless and awesome popcorn horror junk, a very winning simple formula that's makes for yet another suspenseful classic macabre watch. Friday the 13th The Final Chapter is the slasher movie of the 80's, there are other greats but none hold a candle to this film. It is the perfect combination of every aspect of the slasher genre and it's by far the best Friday the 13th film. Part 3 laid the path for what Jason would become and where the series would go, and The Final Chapter solidified all that and built off of the groundwork of the 3rd installment. The surrounding cast in the Final Chapter are easily some of the best in the franchise, each with their own distinct personality traits that help contribute the movie. From the greaser wannabe Teddy to the painfully awkward acting of Crispin Glover this movie nails it with the teens. Corey Feldman as Tommy is a lot of fun as well, he becomes Jason's main foe and it's pretty obvious early on that the two are going to come face to face at the end and when that finally happens it blows past your expectations, this is the best final sequence of any Friday film. Not only do you care for Tommy but you care for his sister Trish who even though she makes typical bad decisions that are always present in slasher films, she really is trying her best to protect her brother from the menacing Jason.Jason Voorhees in this movie is incredible, never before had he been as evil feeling as he is in the Final Chapter. The way he moves and stalks, and the last half hour he is unstoppable, busting through windows and walls, I feel when watching him in this movie he is truly on a mission to kill everyone around him and nothing is going to stop him, he almost has a gangster sort of appeal to him and that could be due to the veteran actor who played him, also the tension there was on set between Jason and the director Joseph Zito. I believe that this is the last time we see Jason truly as a living person who has yet to die, obviously in films to follow he took on a more zombie aspect as he continually is resurrected from the dead in unrealistic ways, but that's what makes it fun. The look of Jason is very similar to the 3rd movie, this is the case obviously because this takes place directly following the ending sequence of Part 3, unmasked Jason does look different but it's for the better, this is the best Jason make-up of the first five films. Jason as usual kills people using some unique instruments and obviously some familiar ones as well. The special effects in the movie are outstanding, done by the great Tom Savini whom most horror fans will know and love. With less restrictions and worries about rating the kills would have been far more brutal than they already are, plus the final battle with Jason has one of the better effects to be seen in horror. Legend has it Tom Savini came back to the franchise after being absent in the last two for one reason, kill Jason Voorhees, and even though we would see Jason in 8 more movies, Tom was successful in his endeavor, he put the nail in the coffin on the hockey masked foe once and for all! As I mentioned earlier Jason is resurrected in every movie that he actually appears in following part 4. So hats off to Tom Savini, one of, if not the greatest special effects artist in horror.I have a very hard time finding things wrong with this one, it is a great improvement coming off of part 3, its score is improved, the kills are better, Jason is at his best, and it's simply a great 80's slasher which is crazy considering it's the fourth one in the franchise. Not to mention I think it still really holds up today, if you turn off the lights and turn up the surround sound this movie will make you jump, and of course make you not want to go camping for a while. This is important considering pretty much every 80's horror movie is great, but very laughable to the standards of today. I'm glad that Friday the 13th the Final Chapter didn't hold true to its name, but if it had it would have saved us all from the atrocities Jason Goes to Hell, and gave Jason Voorhees and Camp Blood a very proper send off.

This has always been my favorite Friday The 13th movie. It's the first time the franchise truly realized how dumb it was, thus making it a fun, dumb, yet still scary 80's goldmine of gory horror fun! It has the best Jason, the best characters, and some of the best kills. It's nice to have characters that are actually likable and relatable, such as Cripsin Glover as the shy nerdy guy who's battling several social anxiety. Most of the other movies just have generic teenagers who are only there to get killed, but this is the first movie that actually tries to have interesting and ED characters that you want to root for instead of waiting for them to die. Corey Feldman as the kid is also a cool character and a nice change of pace. The kills are BRUTAL and have such a PUNCH to them. People don't just die, they DIE. People get tossed out windows and over balconies and get stabbed in the freakin face and broken in half of Jason's knee, it's all amazing! I will say the ending is a bit underwhelming, since this is supposed to be the final Jason movie and all (thank GOD we got more), but it's still a cool ending. If you gotta pick one Friday movie to watch, pick this one.

Friday 13th 1-3 I considered to be generic camp slashers which didn't live up to the iconic legacy that the franchise has built up. This 4th part however was an improvement and I actually quite enjoyed it.This time with a couple of familiar faces in Crispin Glover and child star legend Corey Feldman the movie actually had a bit of a storyline which the previous ones didn't. Thin storyline absolutely but a storyline all the same.I didn't entirely understand the logic of the movies finale but everything else was well enough done and though the film pales in comparison to the same years Nightmare On Elm Street it's still a decent slasher feature. The Good: Vastly improved death scenes Actually has a story The Bad:Still pretty naff in places Weak ending Things I Learnt From This Movie: If a rubber dinghy gets run through with a machete it'll continue to float because physics Harpoon gun up the bum is a hell of a way to go
