So finally the Friday 13th franchise begins to take shape, Jason finds his signature hockey mask and appears to be a more competent monster like killer.Another group of kids go out to the cabins and you know the rest. Sadly once again there really is no story at all and by the time anyone is aware of Jasons spree were down to the token "Final girl" I believe this third part to be a step up from the first two and you can see real development but ultimately these iconic movies are extremely dated and not far off being just another camp slasher.Friday the 13th Part III was released when the 3D fad was going again and it shows, several scenes throughout the film are blatantly implemented for those with the ridiculous looking glasses. As part of the franchise this is watchable stuff, but if you've seen the previous 2 or for that matter any camp slasher you'll know exactly what's coming. The Good: Jason Voorhees is taking shape The Bad: Very generic stuffThings I Learnt From This Movie: In the 80's all bikers & "Punks" were criminals Jason was a lot less appealing when he was alive A scene where a man points a washing line pole towards the camera for the purposes of "3D" made me question whether 3D porn would be entertaining or really frickin scary
... View MoreThis films starts off with the climax of the second film, where Jason Voorhees apparently didn't die, but lives again to kill more campers at Camp Crystal Lake. This entry seems to be more competently made than prior entries, but overall the film is still pretty uninteresting and nothing but an excuse for Jason to kill a bunch of co-eds, this time in 3-D, so there are lots of straight-at-the-camera stabbings, impaling, popcorn popping, and balls being juggled that all looks pretty stupid when you watch it in 2-D. There are some attempts at suspense and scares that work better than the prior two films, but that's a pretty low bar. However, I did enjoy the fair amount of 80s nostalgia in the film, from vans with luxurious interior carpets, to Velcro wallets, to the fashions and hairdos. This film also seemed to be when the series started proper, with this film being the first one where Jason wears the hockey mask (Jason wasn't the killer of the first film and he wore a gunny sack in the second film). Still, if you want 80s slasher films, even though this series solidified the formula, there were quite a few knockoffs that did it much better, like "Halloween," "Torso," or even something like "Sleepaway Camp."

It changes the formula a little bit by supplying Jason with a new mask and has him target a group of friends who decided to enjoy the outdoors for the weekend. The characters seemed more fleshed out with a comedian, an athlete, a princess and two hippies who look way older then anyone else in the group. How they met or if they were meant to be older then they look may never be known. It was the first to introduce a barn and gang members that will appear in different formats as the series progresses and does seem to be a staple even though it's the lamest of the bunch. Since the film was inspired by Halloween anyways they could've continued on from the second film and answered the unresolved questions it posed. But time for that has come and gone. Others may enjoy it, but it wasn't for me.
... View MoreThis is definitely one of my favorite Jason movies! Whenever i watch it i make sure it's night time, I'm alone, with popcorn and 3D glasses. This is just such a great early 80s slasher movie! The acting is fine for me, but at times i can notice how bad it is. The deaths are pretty good. Jason in this movie is creepy looking. Something that may explain why i love this is when it's night time, everyone is doing their own thing, and they are slowly being killed by Jason. When i watch this, i always get creepied out, and it's really scary. This is the scariest Jason movie. So overall, this movie, along with the theme, is just awesome!
