Cutting Class Trailers

High school student Paula Carson's affections are being sought after by two of her classmates: Dwight, the "bad boy", and Brian, a disturbed young man who has just been released from a mental hospital where he was committed following the suspicious death of his father. Soon after being released, more murders start happening. Is Brian back to his old tricks, or is Dwight just trying to eliminate the competition?

Before the shop teachers could get a hold of me, before I was in college and my parents finally had time to be at home, this was the film that taught me "righty tighty, lefty loosey." Unfortunately that was about all it was good for at the time. Still, at least it had an effect on someone who watched it. At least it taught an unsupervised little 9-year-old boy something that he's used the rest of his life.Yeah, other than that it's a throw-away film. I mean, you have a famous actor making a movie that famous actors NEVER seem to be in and that on itself is interesting and cool......but otherwise it's a throw away film. You watch it late at night, you watch it on a rainy Sunday afternoon...and otherwise you forget all about it until you mention to your friends from the 80s that, Brad was in it and then suddenly they click on that light and are moderately shocked he'd be in a trash thriller.I can't tell you to stay away from it, because it does entertain and I can't tell you to watch it because, well, it is kinda a junker.

I don't know why it only has 3.5 stars. It has excellent acting with a wonderful supporting cast. nice boobs!! she's quite an attractive lady. much sexier than that brad pitt guy. the techno music created a nice ambiance, and the movie contained a great amount of suspense. i would watch it over and over and over again! i just watched it and I'm about to go back and watch it again! i just need to buy some more popcorn. oh, how i enjoy popcorn. buy this one, you won't want to miss it. truly one of the best films of the decade. it makes star wars look like my little pony and my little pony look like barbie's adventure in las vegas.

When people talk about the greatest Brad Pitt films - Cutting Class rarely gets a mention, and I just can't understand why. Nah, I'm just kidding; but actually I was surprised to find that this film is nowhere near as bad as its reputation suggests. Sure, it's a long way from brilliant - but what do people seriously expect when going into an eighties slasher? Anyway...it has to be said that it's never really clear exactly what director Rospo Pallenberg is aiming for; there's not enough scares for a horror film, not enough (intentional) laughs for a comedy and nowhere near enough suspense for a thriller...but in spite of all this, the film somehow manages to succeed in being an entertaining mess. The film takes place at a high school and top student Paula Carson's father has gone away on a hunting trip. Around the same time, her boyfriend's former friend Brian Woods has been released from a mental hospital and his appearance has coincided with a string of murders at the school.Naturally the biggest talking point of this film is the lead performance from Brad Pitt. I'm sure that the man himself would rather forget that this film ever existed; but to his credit, he leads the film well and this performance does show some early promise. Besides that, I'd rather watch this than recent rubbish such as Oceans Eleven (and sequels). The other two leads are not so great; Jill Schoelen (best remembered for role in the 1987 classic The Stepfather) is awkward, while Donovan Leitch looks a bit ridiculous in his long black coat. The film tries to be something of a whodunit; but unfortunately forgets to add in any red herrings, which means that it's always more than a little obvious who the murderer is. The film does feature a few decent murder scenes that are fairly imaginative; though not particularly bloody. There's not a great deal of suspense in the film and it tends to rely a lot on the characters and situation; which is usually interesting enough to keep the film ticking over. It all boils down to a decent conclusion and we are treated to some interesting reasoning behind the murder's motives. All in all, Cutting Class is not great; but it's decent entertainment at least and is worth a look.

Sometimes all that it requires to take your mind off of everything is a simple-minded, bone-headed 80's slasher, especially if it's one that stars a young, hunky and still unknown Brad Pitt as the high school jerk and Roddy McDowall as the dirty-minded principal. The plot is textbook 80's guff, meaning no purposeful twists or any attempts at building up tension whatsoever, but still it guarantees a good 90 minutes of dopey fun and chuckles. As Brian returns to the schoolyard after a period in a mental asylum to treat his Violent Schizophrenia Syndrome, bodies start piling up as well and naturally he becomes the prime suspect. Of course, in this type of film, it takes an awfully very long time before any of the dim-witted characters realizes something's wrong and "Cutting Class" is no exception. Someone actually has to stumble over a corpse accidentally before realizing several others persons are missing as well. The script really tries hard to uphold the mystery and to keep the real killer's identity secret, but it doesn't matter all that much since we're just watching the film for the murders anyway. They aren't special, unfortunately, just a neat throat-slitting, an icky flagpole-killing and someone's crushed head on the copying machine. There's also the fairly original running gag of the killer's first victim surviving the assault and fruitlessly struggling for help for the rest of the film. The main attraction here is obviously – and almost exclusively – Brad Pitt, and he certainly doesn't disappoint as the cocky school-rebel. At a certain point in the film, one of his teachers tells him he has little chance to a great future, ha ha ha!
