Over the years, I had heard that this Corey Haim movie had managed to build something of a cult. So when it was given a budget re-release recently in a DVD pack of eight movies, I decided to give it a look. After watching it, I honestly can't figure out why there are people who like it. Haim (an actor who has never impressed me) is a poor leading man, who seems bewildered throughout and delivers awful one-liners in a sleepy style. And with Jim Wynorski directing - a director who hasn't impressed me much more than Haim over the years - the entire enterprise feels really cheap and sluggish, from the obvious stock footage and threadbare production values to the utterly routine action. As the movie progresses, you will feel more tired with every passing minute. Yet as I said, the movie still has managed to build a cult, which might explain why a sequel (!) got released the following year. I guess you can never be sure what will make moviegoers happy.

DEMOLITION HIGH is an amusing straight-to-video DIE HARD rip-off from Jim Wynorski, a man known for pumping out dozens upon dozens of B-movie features over the last few decades. This is by far the best Wynorski film I've seen because it's actually entertaining, at least in a mild sense. The story sees a bunch of terrorists invade an after-hours school with former '80s sensation Corey Haim the ageing student who stands up against them.Expect creative death sequences, cheesy one-liners, and a general lack of budget that doesn't stop Wynorski filling his movie with explosions, action sequences, and suspense. The workshop circular saw death sequence is incredible and stands up against similar moments in the likes of CLIFFHANGER and SUDDEN DEATH, while the lean, pared-down storyline is never boring. Watch out for THE WALKING DEAD's Jeff Kober in an effective turn as the baddie of the piece, along with cameos from the likes of Gerrit Graham, Dick Van Patten, and various others. An unlikely sequel, DEMOLITION UNIVERSITY, followed.

I thought this movie was pretty good for Corey Haim. Whenever it's on I always have to watch because I love Corey Haim. It's the basic action flick with the occasional bad guys. I guess it's like a B version of Toy Soldiers. Overall it was pretty good.

The usual B movie slash and suspense. Plot is weak and full of holes - as are most of the dead terrorists after Corey Haim finishes with them. Why not blow up the xxxxxx while it sits on the xxxx???????Too easy.
