Before I go to sleep has been on my watchlist for a few years now. Last week I watched another movie with Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman in the leading roles. I really enjoyed their chemistry. Perhaps that's why I think the story-line and their acting adds up to the suspense of a good thriller, mystery and drama movie. I've read some recent reviews and in my opinion this movie is underrated. I haven't read the book so I don't know if the makers intended it to be as grim as it is. I do think that the gloominess of the weather and the characters are of added value to this movie. The character of Christine is confused as soon as she opens up her eyes and sees her world every morning. As much as I would like to forget my life most times, I wouldn't like to wake up and remembering absolutely nothing of the past 20 years. Including the house I'm in and the man sleeping next to me. I can imagine her anxiety very well. Her being played by Nicole Kidman and her having a rather emotionless visage, it was hard for me to read the expressions on her face. I did enjoy the roles and expressions of Colin Firth and Mark Strong. What I most look for in a movie with the genres of Mystery and Thriller are characters that surprise me. Who aren't what they seem to be. And in this flick some characters get another plot turn. 9 Out of 10 for me, because the last 5-10 minutes were too slow. Enjoy the watch, it's a good one!

Two highly successful films I hate are "Memento" and "Groundhog Day", for wildly different reasons, but both falling way short of what I consider a good film. The atrocious "Before I Go to Sleep" blends elements of both in a disastrous fashion.Even if this film were believable (it's not) or engrossing (far from it), its use of red herrings is unforgivable. Halfway through we have a fake scene pointing guilt at our heroine's empathetic doctor, and that's immediately revealed to be a false lead. Flashback structure is irrelevant to the story, and the resolution of the mysteries leads to a sickly sentimental finish.Actors of the caliber of Kidman & Firth are attracted to such slop by virtue of challenging roles -and the challenge unfortunately derives from these roles being unplayable. On most TV series, and in traditional Hollywood during the factory system, there is either a writers' table or conference or some mechanism to sound out before shooting begins the psychology of why characters do what they do, so that an audience can believe it. Certainly viewers are naturally gullible -that is part of what cinema relies upon, but apparently no one checked or double checked whether the premise of this stupid story could hold water when dropped on the viewer in the first few expository scenes. The more complicated a thriller is, the more difficult to avoid plot holes and contradictions- even the most successful recent thriller GONE GIRL was loaded with mistakes and poor script devices during the latter reels when the fabricated story unraveled and was replaced by "what really happened". But with lousy films like "Sleep" the most basic elements are utter rubbish, right from the git go.

You know the movie. I want to say about her actual husband and her child. They are really bad people. Because your wife and your mother get sick. And what you do ? You just leave her. Where is she ? How is she ? What she doing ? oo easy thing. Leave her. What is the meaning of family ? If there is meaning, then that man (actual husband) as worse as the bad man in the film. This man deserve a good hit on his face. And the boy, i first think that the boy is very small like a teenager, below 12 something. But he is some big. And he also visit her mother like he see a friend of friend of friend. Hey what is this ? She is your reason to be life in the world. This extremely "cold" or maybe a stupidy. Whatever you call, that is not for me. Not in my life actuality.

A muddled psychological thriller starring Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth. It's a basic copy of MEMENTO with Kidman playing an amnesic housewife who is unable to remember any of the recent events in her life when she wakes up each morning. Whoever wrote this material thought they were being clever but the truth is that BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP has more holes in it than Swiss cheese and the plot just doesn't hang together very well. These modern, outlandish conspiracy-type thrillers just don't seem very realistic or indeed believable when you look at them too closely.Kidman has long been a least favourite actress of mine and continues that trend here with another cold fish, mannered performance no different from the rest of her recent career. Firth plays in support as the typically mild-mannered husband but his part feels a bit like miscasting and he looks and feels tired. Mark Strong is better but underutilised playing Kidman's psychiatrist. There are some mildly involving mystery elements early on but once you realise where this film's going it becomes increasingly ridiculous until the silly, sentimental ending.
