A Night in Heaven Trailers

Faye Hanlon is a community-college professor with an emotionally depressed husband and an abundance of sexual frustration. Her sister drags her to a male strip-club for a girls-night out, where she discovers that one of the dancers is her failing student Rick Monroe, a.k.a. "Ricky the Rocket". A heated affair between teacher & student ensues, as Faye struggles to reconcile her emotions and make consequential life choices: Continue her lustful sessions with the studly-but-shallow teen stripper? Or break it off with Ricky & work to salvage her marriage to the loving-but-distant husband?

Whitney Hanlon (Robert Logan) works at a Florido rocket launch site. His wife Faye (Lesley Ann Warren) is a community college professor. Rick Monroe (Christopher Atkins) is a womanizer college student. Faye fails him for joking around in his presentation. Her sister Patsy (Deborah Rush) drags her out on a night out to a male strip club. One of the strippers turns out to be his student Ricky the Rocket. Whitney refuses to work for the defense department and gets fired. Their marriage struggles and Ricky starts flirting with her. This is a total cheese fest. There is no other way to describe it. John G. Avildsen is a very uneven director. He made some of the finest movies of the 80s and some of the worst. This is one of the worst. The movie is setting up something darker but the cheesiness keeps blocking it. Avildsen doesn't know what to make here. He keeps trying to make little unfunny jokes. Logan is not much more than an empty suit. Warren tries her best but it's such a badly written character. Atkins is more of the same. There are some erotica but it's not about that either. Nothing really works in this one.

How could this have gotten such a low rating? (Keep in mind I love cheesy 70's/80's flicks) It's a sexy movie but it's far from trashy. It's got real emotions running through the entire movie mostly thanks to Leslie Anne Warren. I can't get over how she doesn't have any lips though. You don't see that nowadays thanks to collagen. Please understand, I am not praising collagen injections, they're obnoxious. That was sarcasm. Her character is such a prude it's annoying. She's just adorable when she gets dressed up in that little red dress so it leaves me to wonder why any woman would choose to go around looking as plain as she did through most of this movie.Christopher Atkins is too adorable in this movie. How could any woman not crush on that kid, married or not. He's irresistible. His strip tease was really sexy. I would like to personally thank the choreographer for keeping his dance number "manly" and most of all for not putting him in a thong, that would have killed it. Word of advice guys, that is not sexy on ANY man, not even on Tatum Channing (drool). I have loved this movie since I was a kid. Atkin's strip tease surely is A Night in Heaven.

When you're a teenage boy, you watch this for one reason - the sex stuff. However, as a grown man who has seen a lot of John G. Avildsen's films, you begin to appreciate what they were getting at. A lot of John G. Avildsen's films are about relationships; their beginnings, their struggles, and, in many cases, their resolutions involving one party being redeemed and receiving forgiveness from another. Examples are Rocky's and Adrian's confession of love to one another, Daniel and Myagi's constantly growing father/son friendship, and, even, Daniel earning the respect of Johnny at the end of the Karate Kid. This film is, actually, no different, but it is perhaps not as sophisticated in its execution. I can watch this movie with a greater sense of appreciation; especially, once you get to the end of the film to see a wonderful example of unconditional love and forgiveness.

I know that a lot of people who write reviews always try to find some deeper meaning and/or raised consciousness from the silver screen. However, some movies appeal to nothing more than our base instincts. In this case, there is not a guy reading this that hasn't fantasized about a good looking teacher. On the other hand, there probably are no female teachers who did not find a single young man as attractive, appealing, and worthy of a few fantasies herself. That's all this movie represents. I think that's all it ever meant to be. I enjoyed it - but then again I think Lesley-Ann Warren is hot!
