"The Messengers" is a religious-themed series involving 7 individuals chosen by God to truly test humanity if they can be saved from themselves. These Messengers of God must engage in trials and tribulations in order to stop Satan and the 4 Horsemen of the apocalypse from destroying the world.Initially the plot was interesting, and a fresh set of good-looking faces starring in this show helped gain some traction. However, with every episode you will feel emotionally detached to these actors because they are so clichéd and stereotyped to death. In the beginning Satan was shot down to Earth in a meteor and roamed among the land of Texas as a suave European guy trying to cause all acts of mischief and foil Gods messengers. He then tries his best to blackmail everyone for no good reason other than the fact that he's Satan and he can do whatever he wants. Shortly after, Satan reveals to everyone that his mission was not to commence the apocalypse, but to literally maintain his "playground," and honestly desires to keep everything how it is. He then helps the protagonists save the world by giving them crucial information and ratting out the horsemen because they didn't let him join their evil club. These characters could have literally been played by children and the show could have been set in a kindergarten school and the plot would have worked just as seamlessly! So apparently the horsemen were once normal people but their decision to do an act of murder transformed them into full-on biblical demons. If the same laws applied to the messengers, half of them should have been demons by now. For crying out loud the show's teenage messenger is introduced to us as a murderer. But I guess the message is that you can still be an angel and kill another human being if it was in self defense. But the ending really took the cake, and destroyed every single frosting covered redemption this series could have received. The messengers are rounded up by men with guns and the four Horsemen are jeering like normal villains but instead of killing them instantaneously, they let the group plan their next move. The messengers decide to try and blow the generator which supplies the doomsday device and break the 5th seal of the apocalypse. But they all get shot... And die. They completely failed and died. But suddenly a flashing jolt of lightening strikes from the clouds and the weather changing weapon is magically transformed into miracle water, which then heals the messengers back into full health. Everyone cheers and laughs and the horsemen get smoked alive like tasty BBQ; you can even see Satan crawling into the light and smiling because God intervened and made everything right again. I cannot believe how contradicting this show is. The whole premise of the plot was so that 7 strangers would work together and stop the end of the world through intellect, effort, and most of all, free will. Isn't that the attribute which differentiates man from beast, humans from gods? But in this adaptation, these messengers never had the opportunity of free will, never made actions by themselves and blindly followed Gods Blues Clues until it led them to their untimely deaths... And revivals. The Messengers is a comical, fantastical and arguably elementary version of what people think of bible stories. It portrays the messengers as puppets, The horsemen as high school bullies, Satan as your friendly neighborhood loan shark, and God as an indecisive, maniacal, theatrical playwright. If you like being disappointed, then click on that Netflix recommendation and I guarantee you won't be sorry!

I loved this show, I felt like it had depth and made sense in a lot of ways how the devil would want to stop the apocalypses. If you are a Christian or know anything about how the demise of the devil is to play out, then people would know bringing on the apocalypses is not idea for him. I like how the writer picked up on that, as well implemented it into his show. I heard this show has been taken off the air and I'm heartbroken lol but for real I AM SAD, what a terrible time also when the anti-Christ presents itself in the little girl. Shame on whoever shut this show done, fyi times have changed get your ratings from Netflix, or something else it has better ratings for this show meaning people watch it, just they aren't willing to pay high cable bills as well as even come online to do ratings.

Usually I can deal with most CW shows regardless of how over the top they are with character torment and how they love B rated acting emotion porn. But this one gave me nothing to really hold on to. The show skipped all "Sci-fi" topics and went straight into a (Under- the-radar) mid apocalyptic Earth where no one knows whats going on besides the main cast which who are chosen Angels to stop the Devil. Of course they chose as many attractive actors and actresses as they could and introduce little to no backstory to who they are except their severe torment from a severely heart wrenching bad luck in their life. (Like finding out your wife you've been with for 7+ years is pregnant carrying your Dad's baby and you find out on the wedding day she is going to have your brother). The show really has no good things about it except decent to mediocre production value. I could see the appeal, but as a man of critique and realism the Evangelistic agenda behind the whole story really threw me off too. (walking into a bar named the last supper). I hope CW learns from these mistakes and I hope you watch the first episode. Because you won't make it past the 2nd episode. And for that I give it a 2/10

I've been reading all the critic reviews and all. First of all I'm a fantasy genre lover. Looking at this series all I see is the message, whatever the plot entails, religious or whatever... From the beginning Lucifer falling down to earth and then 7 messengers connected, and then their destiny is connect; has been kind of like the story floating on my mind for a long time now since knowing about the book of apocalypse. sometimes movies/series carry a lot of messages that might be helpful to us one way or another; this whole story springing out from the holy bible merging the prophecy with modern event and sizing it out to what (maybe) how the end of the world may seem.It actually entails how humans can survive any threatening situation and the pending hope that always see us through. From the plot it somehow seem going against the Christian teachings (which is a big 'bad code') but it significance or message is entertaining. In the bit of it religious personnel (like me) will tend to pin out points... Why don't just let the series roll, a work that took much energy and insight to produce, its quite sad. No matter how bad it is there are many others that would love it.
