I love the chemistry between the characters and honestly love traction build up. I do believe Julia and Fidel could have prolonged their romance a little bit to build a little bit more traction. Acting is absolutely great by all characters.

One of my biggest criticisms of this soap opera is that there is no rank insignia on any of the officers' uniforms. Lieutenant, colonel, general - the uniforms are all identical. And by the way, do medical officers always go about armed with pistols? Also, the Arab Larbi that one nurse is in love with: he is clean shaven, and that is a no no for Muslim men. All he ever seems to do is clean windows or put up shutters, aside from hanging around the nurses all the time. One of the issues in the story is the corruption among the Spanish officers - someone is ripping off the medicines and other supplies and a good deal is made of this, but the issue is never resolved. Nobody is caught or chargedd and the issue just sorf of fades away. All in all, an F for authenticity. B+ for romance.

When writing this, the IMDB reviews thus far have just been soap boxes for hatred of the Spanish or the Moroccans. However, this is a T.V. show about compassion. Melilla, Ceuta, and the Canaries have been a part of Spain for centuries, so it's understandable that the Spanish in the 1920s saw it as a home, and so did the indigenous people from nearby areas. This is a T.V. show about forgiveness and seeing the humanity in people who are different. It's a telenovela (which is a genre), so you can only compare it to other telenovelas, not T.V. shows in general. The acting is great by telenovela standards and the costumes and sets are beautiful. This show has Muslim Middle Easterners, interracial relationships, and interfaith relationships, which are all rare things in telenovelas. Timely, wouldn't you say?
