There is many bad reviews here but imdb avg is 7 out of 10. That is strong. Great casting with an absolutely superb soundtrack makes show work. I was a cloak and dagger comic reader in the 80's and this updated version is great.

So many people not giving this show a chance. I personally loved it and while parts were a little slow due to character building I feel that by the 10th episode they really have something to work with. Tyrone and Tandy have the powers they should have and the show has a better feel then some of the other marvel series out there. so give it a shot it could be worth your time.

Content warning for a sexual assault scene in episodes 1 and 2, and repeated scenes of police brutality and a scene of a car accident. CaD is one of the better shows from Marvel. It has a character-driven plot, well-paced characterization, parallels and symbolism in each scene and episode, and an interesting use of CGI and VFX.It does touch on drug addiction, domestic abuse, family neglect, racism, classism, environmental corruption spearheaded by corporations, how Christian leaders can be both helpful and toxic at the same time, and how grief can affect people differently. At the heart of CaD is communal support, being there for one another and trusting each other, and what things seem like on the surface has more bubbling underneath. Evita is there for Tyrone. From the beginning, we see her and Ty's emotional connection shine in every possible way. Evita's understanding and patience with Ty, and his hesitance to reciprocate that due to his grief shows how complex and muddled friendships can get during trying times especially for teenagers. Yet, Evita persists especially with the help of her aunt, Chantelle, who is supportive of Evita and guides her to guiding Ty (and eventually Tandy) into standing strong as the divine pairing.Melissa is there for Tandy. Maybe not in the most conventional way, but she is there. The ending switches, and it's Tandy who's there for her mother. As with reality, abuse is messy and muddled, so what is a straining relationship is also a life supporting one. CaD captures this perfectly.Similar to the Bowens, the Johnson family is also strained, but we see that what brings them together is communal support. Otis brings his son out to a neighborhood cookout in the ninth ward and shows him just how when stricken with intragenerational poverty and structural oppression you build with what you have and hold on tight to the people next to you. Adina uses her privilege to keep her family secure and abide by the unofficial rules of the white society. She pulled the family together during trying times. And with Billy, he protected his brother more times than necessary. He did what he had to do being a victim of structural poverty, but if it was up to that or supporting his brother, he chose his brother every time. Even with this underlying support, at face value, the grief that overcomes the Johnson strains their ability to have regular family interactions. Tandy meeting the Hesses was a turning point for her because it was when she learned the most about the situation that caused the imprisonment of her father, the death of many Roxxon workers, and the initial interaction of her and Ty. Her one heroic deed led her to the truth about her father and his behaviors, how things aren't what they seem on the surface. She shock of this forced her to regress shortly until she is pinged by Evita, which is her wake up call to move forward. At the center of it all is Tyrone and Tandy's dynamic. Two different worlds, two different people, overwhelmed by grief and trauma, that slowly connect to each other. They have a rocky start, but each scene, they pull closer and closer until they eventually become friends who understand each other on a deep level. While both characters are pessimistic, Tandy holds light and hope, and Tyrone holds dark and fears. Their initial draw to their powers and understanding of it parallels their pull to and understanding of each other. They hold each other back from causing disaster by misinterpreting or manipulating their powers. This was one of my favorite shows to watch, and I personally enjoyed the slow pacing in the beginning. It established that the characters drive the plot and invested me more into the characters and their motivations. The action is paced to where it needs to be. The magical elements are delivered where appropriate. There is obvious consequences and limitations that prevent our heroes from not abusing their powers or depending on it for too long. It was a relatively solid show from the first to the last episode.
