Well, given the synopsis of this movie, then you know that chances are quite high that this is going to be one of those movies. You know what I am talking about; a low budget creature feature that lacks everything essential to even have a chance of being watchable. And "Warbirds" sort of turned out to be that kind of movie.First of all, the idea of prehistoric reptilians flying the skies in the Pacific during World War II, well it just wasn't the best of movie ideas to ever have made it to the screen. Let's just be honest. It makes for a laughable plot. Then there was the fact that for some reason the Japanese soldiers spoke English. For the sake of easy watching and listening for the audience, I get that. But when they opt to not include the original language in a movie, it just takes away so much credibility from the movie.Which leads me to the CGI. Wow, just wow. Many of the scenes that included the painfully obvious CGI animated bomber was just abysmal to bear witness to. However, it should also be said that there were actually many CGI scenes in "Warbirds" that turned out nice enough. But the ones that weren't good, were in fact so terrible that it was laughable. And the biggest problem in the entire movie had to be the Maxine West character (played by Jamie Elle Mann). Now, there was nothing wrong with Jamie Elle Mann or her performance, but the character in the movie, wow, you have got to be kidding. Not once throughout the entire course of the movie did she act like military personnel and just follow orders. No, she had to question everything and blatantly go into opposition to the order. It was so bad that it was actually a cumbersome anchor around the movie. That was really a bad idea for a movie character. Now, I mentioned that some of the CGI was actually good enough, and the movie should be praised for that part, at least. The creatures were nice enough to look at, and seemed realistic enough. Except for when they were gunned down in the sky, which they often were, there was absolutely no blood. Which I wound think there would be, given the caliber of the guns mounted on airplanes during World War II.The acting in "Warbirds" was adequate, although you shouldn't prepare yourself for anything grand. All in all, then this 2008 movie was a fairly poor excuse of a creature feature. And it is topped off with an even more laughable ending, trust me. Not overly interesting or particularly entertaining, "Warbirds" score a meager three out of ten stars rating from me.

View MoreDuring the war in the Pacific, a female bomber-crew escorting another team home crash-lands on an island inhabited with Japanese soldiers along with a swarm of prehistoric pterodactyls and must work together to escape the creatures. While not being really bad, this here had some good points. One of the best is that there's a ton of action in here, much more than expected in this kind of film and really brings the pace along quite well. The film's fast pace and really enjoyable action make this one really fun, since it's always moving and never really slowing down and just keeps the film going. The air battles in here are top-notch, with a lot of absolutely fun and enjoyable battles in the skies, from the strong opening which manages to throw in some action and suspense that works here while the centerpiece battle in the middle of the film, which is the first course of action against them, is the biggest and the best with a lot of diving and twisting aerial maneuvers that showcase some great battle tactics on their side, and the sight of a plane flying into a sea of creatures with guns blazing, firing off rounds of ammo and tearing up dozens of creatures is good cheesy fun at it's best. It's also responsible for it's best kill, where the creature dives through a plane at full speed from above downward through the cockpit and tearing the plane to dozens of pieces, crashing into the waves below. A later air battle, which includes a couple great moments of the creatures making inroads on the planes leads to some great suspense, and the scene rarely suffers from lack of action as there's more fighting off the creatures in aerial battles in here. There's also a really fun sequence with them on-land as they sneak supplies away from the creature's nesting grounds, and when they arouse suspicion leads to some really fun chasing and encounters through the forest. The last part is the creatures in here are pretty cool as well, being really nice-looking and fearsome, and are one of the better designs available. These here are what really help the film as this one did have some flaws to it that held it down. One of the biggest here is that the film is really dry for a creature feature as there's hardly any gore in here. There's no blood in here from the kills, and with a respectable body count that this one has, it should've had something much bloodier. Some of this is the misplacement of the Japanese prisoners, since despite looking like prime meat for the creatures none of them come into contact with one and are killed off elsewhere, a huge misstep for their being included and another reason for the low blood-count. The last flaw is the utter and laughable CGI in here, which is frequently used and how often it fails to impress by looking exactly like a CGI creation. It's old-hat for these films, as they're often like that and another entry won't hurt it much. These here are the film's flaws.Rated PG-13: Violence and some Language.
... View MoreMovies are entertainment...got it.However, this one does not entertain, and the concept is ridiculous.Do you think the plane carrying the A bomb travelled without escort? Yes, they wanted to be discreet, but it was common to escort bombers. Females were trained to ferry aircraft. These women(who were flying a bomber) step into a Jap Zero that they have never flown, and fly them like fighter pilots, loops, rolls, inverted. They would not know the proper power settings, approach speeds of a totally unfamiliar aircraft. Oh yeah, does anyone think any controls were labeled in English? They would kill themselves on take-off, or landing, let alone fling acrobatically. They know how to fire the guns, and even talk in fighter pilot jargon. The lead female pilot is made to be the tough guy warrior who knows combat. She's the voice of reason (not) who constantly argues with the Colonel (really?) Terrible in every respect. I have saved the best for last. The acting is bad, even for a SctFy channel movie. The plot and script are bad, even for a ScyFy movie.

The Ugly: Bad writing even for SyFy Channel, supporting cast. The concept is great for an afternoon popcorn flick, and the storyline *in general* didn't require too much suspension of disbelief (no impossible physics, or blatant violations of common-sense science that seem all-too-common in recent movies). However, steps taken to get from plot-point A to plot-point B often made no sense at all. It's as if the script were outlined by a decent writer, then fleshed-out by a 12 year-old.It's no mega-budget blockbuster, but the effects were actually very good for the budget level. *Everything* was done using cgi and green screens though, including anything with a plane in the shot. The picture is good enough, but the not-quite-right flight physics make the effects rather noticeable (look away from any landings, trust me). It works well for the creatures, not so much for airplanes. 10 minutes of stock footage of WWII planes in flight would have made this film much more enjoyable to watch. The male and female leads do a good job with what they were given, which wasn't much (some of the dialog was just painful to sit through). Some of the supporting cast, however, made me cringe whenever they had speaking parts. In their defense, they were trying to overcome a script that was even worse than the usual SyFy weekly offering.Overall, the effects were good for the budget, but not enough to make up for the poor writing or mediocre acting. A tolerable 'fix' for those who crave sci-fi, but a disappointing take on an interesting premise.
