"Mad Max" . . . "Yahoo Serious." Both films demonstrated Australian film-making's love for oddball characters in their movies. With the former, they struck gold; with the latter, they dumped a turd. Guess which category this movie falls down under? So, . . . there are meteorites that smash into people making them zombies . . . oh, and, then, aliens show up . . . and, there's this country-bumpkin guy who apparently has experienced this before and has been preparing for this event (or, these events) . . . and, the aliens are beaming people up into the clouds and putting them into some kind of stasis . . . and, then, the aliens leave and the whole "zombie-thing" starts all over again. Throw into this mishmash of nonsense a bunch of Aussie "oddball" characters. By now, I would have thought, that the Australians would have realized that this type of humor doesn't translate very well anywhere else -- even in the Anglophone world. There's a fine line between "oddball funny" and "oddball stupid and obnoxious." Alas, Aussie comedy is still trying to figure that out.Don't waste your time. Really, . . . don't.

If you are a fan of zombie films, "Undead" is a true gem. It's got everything you want from the zombie genre, and some new ingredients that makes it a notch above most. The acting is decent and the plot is full of spielberg-like magic and wonder. The special effects are wonderfully orchestrated for a low budget film....the best I've seen in a long time. The comedy is laugh-out-loud funny and the bad-ass character truly acts, looks, and fights like a bad-ass. "Undead" has a surreal quality to it that is unmatched in the zombie genre. I'm surprised at the low ratings here on IMDb. This is easily in the top 10 best zombie movies ever made and should not be overlooked by fans of the genre. 8/10

I'm an Australian and recently watched and liked "The Loved Ones" and "Needle".Couldn't watch this one till the end, though - a fact which might not justify a review. But I had enough after half an hour, I even fast forwarded to the "action" SPOILER (Zombies attacking the nerd's house) but overall I was bored out of my mind. 1 star for the efforts. The low-budget charm is nice, and fresh new faces. Still I just couldn't get "hooked".

This movie has an interesting concept, and it must have had a decent budget. The special effects are well-done, the story unravels well and is executed in an interesting way. The acting is not too impressive, but the actors do seem to be having fun with it and you get the impression it could have been a lot better if that was the intention. This is something of a shame, as the movie would have been more immersive if it had something of a more serious tone, but at the same time this playful tone is consistent throughout the movie. The odd thing is it at times does nail this serious tone, and even the acting would have been entirely forgivable if it had not been for one major detail: The Music. The Music for Undead is by far the worst music I have ever, in my entire life, out of all the movies I have ever watched, in the history of the universe, had the misfortune of being exposed to. Have you ever wondered what happened to the people who used to make silly orchestra music for the myriad slapstick comedies of the 60s and 70s? Look no further, apparently they moved to Australia and got involved in horror movies. It's a damned shame. I was able to make it about halfway through the movie until I had to turn it off, as the music became too annoying to sit through. The entire flick becomes a vision of what it could have been, rather than what it actually is. A shameful waste of what otherwise has all the makings of a brilliant zombie slasher.
