"Turistas" (2006) isn't quite as bad as all its countless negative reviews make it out to be; I'd call it an average horror film and rate it a 6 out of 10. It takes the formula of 2005's vastly superior "Hostel" (tourists at an exotic location are systematically kidnapped and killed) with a popular urban legend (organ harvesting).I'd guess that there were two primary reasons why this disappointed audiences the way that it did. First, it's relatively slow for a mainstream horror film. The "horror" doesn't start until a full hour into the movie; the first hour is devoted to a lengthy setup and a (rather beautiful) examination of the natural beauty of Brazil, where the story is set.Second, there is probably less gore than you'd expect, given the film's story device. Outside of the scene depicted in the poster below (and all of the film's trailers), there's actually very little to satisfy gorehounds excited by the movie's premise. It's worth noting here, too, that the film was boycotted in Brazil — it certainly doesn't portray its Brazilian characters in a favorable light. (Lead actor Josh Duhamel even apologized publicly to the country.)With all of that said, I don't really hate "Turistas." It has has three actors that I enjoy watching. Duhamel himself is just great, as are Olivia Wilde and Melissa George. I thought Miguel Zamore made a pretty decent villain. The scenery was gorgeous, the setup succeeded in building tension for me, and the story device was nicely unsettling. (Yeesh.)I can't actually recommend this movie, as I doubt others will be as forgiving with it as I am. But I liked it well enough.

This is my first review here after may be 400 movies i rated. I give this film a go because despite a not so good rating, i always check 3 or 4 reviews, which for THIS movie were balanced between Good with valuable points, and very bad with poor explanations. If you are into credible story, don't even try to see this movie. Despite a pretty good acting , and a interesting main subject, the characters are so dumb i was just face palming every 5 minutes after the first hour. And during this first hour, nothing really happen. This is so long before any action takes place, and this is so predictable, that i was just hoping the main characters will die in awful suffering scenes.I can't understand why people compare this movie to hostel, because despite the fact that there are tourists captured in both, the atmosphere is just TOTALLY different. No thrill, no suspense, no breath taking. Just a wait to see them die ALL for such dumbness.I actually enjoy a lot of genre, from comedy to thriller, horror etc... but this one is just bad in every of them.

I was clenching my teeth and turning away from the screen in the final scene because the imminent drowning syndrome I was feeling for the characters was all too real. The Director had me on the edge of my seat ! Brilliant movie that I highly recommend unless you get squeamish because a lot of the scenes are intense. There are several comedic moments in this film too.Great Cast...Josh Duhamel plays a different character than his normal roles and he is believable. You will have second thoughts about wanting to go to Brazil on a spring break. The scenery is incredible. The film's first scene is an extremely intense event so be prepared.

There isn't much I can say about this film. I actually thought it was a foreign film because of the name... I used to prefer films in English, until I learnt to sort of open up to foreign Horror films. There are some differences in vibe and feel between Hollywood and foreign films, so if you're in a mood for foreign - finding out it isn't might be a little disappointing.Turistas has some beautiful landscape and view shots, the music is great, and everything gives you a "taste of Brazil". The concept of the film plays on the rational fear of being stranded in a foreign country where you don't know the language, the customs or the dangers. The best part is that everything is relatable. Nothing is out of the blue, and everything from the buss accident to the deception and robbery gives an uneasy sensation of "damn, I wouldn't that to happen to me, because it could!".Other than that? Turistas offers nothing new or exceptional in any way. Personally it didn't scare me one bit, and the whole background story felt a little far fetched. However, if you're gonna go with such a story - it can be done better. The ending was also way too "American / Hollywood" for me... such films make more impact when the ending is a little less "sweet'.All in all? I'm not going to remember Turistas as one of the better Horror films I've seen, or as one of the worse. Truth is, I probably won't remember it at all.
