Bo places an ad.Overseas is where the action is for Bo and her company of fellow bores when she travels the jet-stream to Spain with the intention of losing her virginity. Oh, the makings of a great script.... are not found here. Yes, Bo takes off her clothes, and yes, there are some 'sex scenes', so called. But this flick is small potatoes, albeit those small potatoes Golan and Globus thought it was "too sexy"... pffft. Their sex lives must really suck. One of four John Derek/Bo Derek limp-noodle collaborations. It's hard to say which one was the worst, but this one is in the top four.
... View MoreA lot of people seem to miss the point about this fantastic movie. Not every film has to have a believable plot, well-written dialogue and perfect acting, etc. Those which do are fine in their own way, but it would be a dull world if they were all the same. "Bolero" needs to be judged on its own terms and according to its own objectives. Surely if you watch a movie produced by Golan and Globus (and Bo Derek!), directed and photographed by John Derek and starring Bo Derek, you know what to expect. To complain or mark it down because it delivers exactly that is just plain stupid."Bolero" achieves all that it sets out to do (and more!). It has an interesting enough storyline to keep the audience entertained between nude scenes and plenty of great nude scenes to keep us entertained between the other bits. Bo Derek's acting isn't anywhere near as bad as some people here would have us believe -- certainly way better than that of Ana Obregon and Greg Bensen. Let's face it, though: John Derek didn't cast his wife in this movie for her acting ability, or for her resemblance to a teenage virgin -- neither Mrs Derek nor Ms Obregon were even remotely believable in that respect, but that is irrelevant.Bo Derek succeeded admirably in doing what was required of her in "Bolero" -- providing us with something good to look at. She is a very attractive woman, and never looked better than she does in this movie. Even without all of the great humour (some of which may have been, as some critics suggest, unintentional), the beautiful scenes of Mrs Derek are enough to merit at least 5 stars out of ten. What makes it worth all 10 stars, for me, is not Bo Derek, lovely as she may be, but the wonderful Olivia d'Abo. Her portrayal of the young Spanish gypsy, Paloma, is incredibly funny, intriguing and gorgeous at the same time. Her nude scenes alone make this movie worth watching, especially where she stands up in the bathtub and announces proudly, "I am woman. Ready. Juicy, too!" For Ms d'Abo's performance, I would give "Bolero" 11 stars out of 10, if I could.
... View MoreIt was 1984 and I was in college. Also I'm gay (but I wasn't out then). A bunch of my friends decided to see this new X-rated (actually it was unrated--now it's R) Bo Derek flick. I had zero desire to see it but went along anyways. I was hoping there might be some hot male nudity (there wasn't). I can't even remember the plot! All I can remember was the audience reactions. It was all guys (of course) and everybody was quiet for the first 20 minutes--then people started snickering or fighting not to laugh out loud. What were they laughing at? The acting was terrible, the script was even worse, the purported hot sex scenes were pretty mild and, basically, Derek can't act! But above all it was pretty dull. Finally one guy burst out laughing at some particularly idiotic exchange and that was it! The audience lost it and we were all in hysterics during virtually the entire movie! We were yelling things back at the screen and literally tearing the movie to ribbons. The final sex scene (which was faked but the studio SAID it was real) got a little attention but not enough. Basically everybody walked out of the theatre still laughing or just saying (with a big grin) how TERRIBLE that film was! If u watch this for camp value with a bunch of friends u might like it. Otherwise forget it. Also the nudity and sex is pretty tame. It's VERY R rated.
... View MoreI have read quite a few reviews and almost everybody discarded it distastefully saying that it is one of the worst movies ever made. I agree that Bo is weak as far as acting is concerned but the film is OK guys. You certainly get entertained.I think the issue of rating prior to its release was the main factor for all these reviews as majority of the audiences saw this film with predetermined expectations. They thought the film would be a hardcore film but actually it is not. It is a plain drama in which the director conveys the importance of finding the correct partner.as far Bo is concerned, forget about her acting but she is breathtaking with clothes as well without them.I enjoyed it certainly and most of you should if you watch it as a drama and not as a XXX film
