I'm obviously in the minority here, but, although I liked Cody Diablo's scripts for "Juno" and "Young Adult", I found this one very annoying with the portrayal of men stereotyped and lazy. Charlize Theron is excellent, as usual, in her role. The huge twist here I found to be a big viewer setup and a gimmick.
... View MoreOne of my favorite indie films of the year and a painful/riveting look into motherhood. Hard to believe that this movie was directed by a man, but Jason Reitman (Juno) did an amazing job on this film.
... View MoreThe movie continually reminds Tully's otherworldly nature, all the time. No one else ever sees Tully, but then, in Tully's final act, things start to get weirder and weirder. Much of what does work is owed to Theron and Davis's stunning performances. Theron, in particular, is simply impressive, physically and acting wise also; as Tully enters her life and begins to help her out, Theron communicates the relief effortlessly. Davis, who long ago demonstrated her versatility in other projects (such as Halt, Catch Fire, Black Mirror and Always Shine) threads the needle on a character that should either be infuriating or preposterous (or both!), making Tully enchanting and mysterious. Overall the story works properly.
... View MoreVery original and beautifully executed movie about the post-birth depression (not a "baby-blues"). The 'comedy' tag for Tully is misleading; it's a bitter drama with a very interesting idea. If you're close to the subject (birth, babies...) it shouldn't leave you indifferent.Charlize Theron and Mackenzie Davis are exceptional (specially Charlize Theron) in their roles. I think that the main point of the movie, showing the exhaustion related to post-birthing depression is brilliantly passed to the viewer.Although a very good movie, there is some sense of incompleteness. Also, the relationship between Marlo and Drew is undeveloped.
