I just finished watching this movie on VH1 and I loved it! Somehow I missed hearing about it when it came out... but as I was flipping channels today, I stopped when I heard the music... and I'm so glad I took the time to watch it!!! As so many people have stated in other reviews, the soundtrack is incredible! The movie and the music bring back so many wonderful memories of my teen years.I was 16 in '78 and for a few of those teen years when so many of us were not old enough to get into the disco, the skating rink was our place. My first kiss was at the skating rink... but I also got grounded for 2 weeks when my mom showed up at the rink and caught me wearing my purple hip hugger bell bottom pants with a borrowed-from-my-friend-because-I-wasn't-allowed-to-own-one "crop top" (those of you who were alive at that time will know what I am talking about!) LOL I was really surprised with the acting skills of the young performers in this movie... and I don't want to discount the adult actors either... they were great! This is just an over all "feel good" movie and it made my day!

This is a great slice of fake nostalgia - the 70s never was so clean or easy but this is a fun family movie with roller skating as the theme. With a number of threads to the plot, coping with grief, new neighbors, closing of their Southside skating rink etc; this was complex enough to keep adults interested.Above all Bow Wow yet again delivers a great performance. He has a brilliant charm here, modest and likable, but fresh in places. It all just works really well. The skating is great fun and the music is good too. This is a fun and funny movie about being a teenager in the 1970s and deserves a wide audience.Recommended

I also enjoyed this movie because it brought back good memories. In 1978 I was 17 and the thing to do on Sunday nights was going to the skating rink. Mama bought me skates so I wouldn't have to rent and I wanted to learn to do roller disco. I thought I was getting pretty good and while skating to "Good Times" I tried a move that I shouldn't have and broke my left leg. After it healed I went back to the rink but didn't try anymore fancy moves. I doubt I still have the skills and most of the rinks here are not a very good spot for kids. When my daughter was a teen, I took her and some friends to a rink and there was more dancing in bare feet than skating. Kids today don't know the fun they missed in "the old days." I also liked the soundtrack from the movie and am looking for one to play and drive my daughter crazy! She HATES disco!

This movie takes place in 1978, just when I was about 16 and I really related to it. The kids' skating rink was closing down, something I also experienced as a teenager. They had to go uptown to skate. The slang was hysterical to me. They have awful nicknames for each other like "Mixed Mike" and "Naps", and do the "your mama" insults. The kids talked like the kids did when I was in school. It is really a nice heartwarming movie, great for 12+. Bow Wow was great in this movie, as were the other actors. If you like '70s music, there is plenty. Great skating! Your kids may be expecting a different ending, but they will like it anyway. Deals with the loss of a mother, skating rivalry, young love.
